The Budyko functions under non-steady-state conditions [PDF]
The Budyko functions relate the evaporation ratio E / P (E is evaporation and P precipitation) to the aridity index Phi = E-p = P (E-p is potential evaporation) and are valid on long timescales under steady-state conditions.

A Budyko-type formulation for baseflow and direct runoff
This study discusses the role of the aridity index in controlling the long-term fluxes of direct (Qd) and baseflow (Qd). Here we present an analytical derivation starting from similar assumptions as the one presented in the original work of Budyko that leads to two simple expressions for the control of the aridity index on Qb and Qd.

Effects of Climate Change and Human Activities on Surface Runoff in the Luan River Basin
Quantifying the effects of climate change and human activities on runoff changes is the focus of climate change and hydrological research. This paper presents an integrated method employing the Budyko-based Fu model, hydrological modeling, and climate ...

Budyko receives Robert E. Horton Medal
The Robert E. Horton Medal for outstanding contributions to the geophysical aspects of hydrology was presented to Mikhail Ivanovitch Budyko at the 1994 Spring Meeting Honors Ceremony in Baltimore on May 25,1994. The award citation and Budyko's response are presented here.

Streamflow elasticity as a function of aridity [PDF]
Relating variations in annual streamflow to a climate anomaly, commonly referred to as streamflow elasticity to climate, is central for a rapid assessment of the impact of climate change on water resources.

The vulnerability of water availability in Peru due to climate change: A probabilistic Budyko analysis [PDF]
This study provides for the-first-time a water availability analysis at drainage and basin-scale in Peru. Using new gridded datasets of precipitation and temperature, along with six global actual evapotranspiration estimations from remote sensing ...

The parsimony of the Budyko water balance model has prompted its extensive use for analyzing climate–vegetation–water interactions. Existence of time–space symmetry in the Budyko model, governing the hydrological predictions across both temporal (short ...

Using the Budyko framework for calibrating a global hydrological model in ungauged catchments of the world [PDF]
In the last three decades, Global hydrological models (GHMs) have become an established tool to simulate water resources worldwide, however, most of the GHMs are uncalibrated. One of the main reasons which makes calibration necessary is large uncertainty

Dynamic hydrologic modeling using the zero-parameter Budyko model with instantaneous dryness index
Long-term partitioning of hydrologic quantities is achieved by using the zero-parameter Budyko model which defines a dryness index. However, this approach is not suitable for dynamic partitioning particularly at diminishing timescales, and therefore, a ...
