Zoo Biology, EarlyView.Based on 94 Massasauga litters born in human care, mean litter size and number of live young per litter were higher in wild‐bred than in zoo‐bred litters. Wild‐bred litters more often contained live young than did zoo‐bred litters. In zoo‐bred litters, dam mass was positively associated with above‐average reproductive output.
