Biology of Sourgrass and Its Competition with Buffelgrass and Guineagrass
Establishment and early growth characteristics were defined for sourgrass [Trichachne insularis(L.) Nees], one of the most serious pasture weeds in Hawaii. Optimum germination of sourgrass seeds was obtained in the light at 30 C or with alternating temperatures of 20 and 30 C or 25 and 35 C.

Conversion of thornscrub to buffelgrass pasture in northwestern Mexico: Microclimatic consequences
Journal of Arid Environments, 2016Abstract Buffelgrass ( Pennisetum ciliare ) have been planted in large areas of northwestern Mexico for cattle grazing. Previous studies have documented how buffelgrass conversion affects several ecological processes; however, very few studies have documented how conversion affects local microclimate.

Nutrient intake of range sheep on a buffelgrass (Cenchrus ciliaris) pasture
Small Ruminant Research, 1995This study was conducted to estimate and compare the organic matter (OM), energy and mineral intakes of grazing lambs in a buffelgrass pasture during 1 year. Vegetation in the study area (10 ha) consisted mainly of buffelgrass (70% of covered area) and shrubs such as blackbrush (Acacia rigidula), palo verde (Cercidium macrum) and cenizo (Leucophyllum ...

Inheritance of Apospory in Buffelgrass
Crop Science, 1994Previous studies on inheritance of monopolar (Panicum type) apospory in the Panicoideae resulted in three widely different genetic models and mutually incompatible data sets. We report additional data for tetraploid buffelgrass [Pennisetum ciliate (L.) Link = Cenchrus ciliaris L.] and attempt to reconcile earlier studies.

Apospory‐Linked Molecular Markers in Buffelgrass
Crop Science, 1997Isolation of a gene controlling apomixis would be useful to plant breeders for fixing hybrid vigor. A single gene encodes for aposporous apomixis in buffelgrass (Pennisetum ciliare L. Link), which is inherited in a autotetraploid fashion. Only two molecular markers linked to the gene are known: C04‐600, a RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA) and ...

Stigma Receptivity and Seed Set in Protogynous Buffelgrass
Crop Science, 2000Buffelgrass, Pennisetum ciliare (L.) Link syn = Cenchrus ciliaris L., is an important warm‐season perennial forage grass that is widely grown throughout the arid tropics. It has perfect florets, and emasculation is thought to be required to produce controlled hybrids. This is a tedious, difficult undertaking because of the small floret size.

Genetic Diversity among Pentaploid Buffelgrass Accessions
Crop Science, 2015ABSTRACTBuffelgrass [Pennisetum ciliare (L.) Link (syn. Cenchrus ciliaris L.)], an important pasture and range grass in the arid semi‐tropics and tropics, has excellent drought‐tolerance but lacks winter hardiness. It is a polymorphic, apomictic species and its most common chromosome number is 2n = 4x = 36.

Stamen-specific proteins of buffelgrass (Cenchrus ciliaris)
Journal of Plant Physiology, 1991Summary Total proteins were extracted from Cenchrus ciliaris L. (buffelgrass) pistils at the stages of megasporogenesis and of embryo sac enlargement and from anthdrs at the stages of microsporogenesis and of uninucleate microspore enlargement. They were analyzad by two-dimensional isoelectric focusing/SDSpolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
