FDTD analysis of optical integration between SiGe waveguides and Ge-rich SiGe heterostructures on graded buffer for quantum-confined Stark effect optical modulators

open access: yesResults in Optics
Ge-rich SiGe heterostructures with superior crystal and photonic quality have been enabled via a thick linear graded SiGe buffer platform on Si. Nevertheless, due to a very low refractive index contrast between the Ge-rich SiGe heterostructures and the ...

Factors correlated with developing caries during orthodontic treatment: Changes in saliva and behavioral risks

open access: yesJournal of Dental Sciences, 2012
Background/purpose: The aim of this study was to identify salivary changes during orthodontic treatment with follow-up for 30 months. Materials and methods: In 25 patients salivary markers (unstimulated and stimulated saliva, buffer capacity, and pH ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Case Study of Space Optimization Simulation of Existing Office Buildings Based on Thermal Buffer Effect

open access: yesBuildings
This paper takes an old office building in Hefei as the research object to explore the influence of the thermal buffering performance of the case building buffer space on the air speed and thermal environment of the office space based on the field ...

Research on Conflict Resolution Method of Production Evaluation Index in Flexible Manufacturing Field Based on Multiplayer Cooperative Game

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Multiple local assignment rules are common in production lines with complex production elements to direct the production process. Different local assignment rules have different degrees of impact on each production evaluation index, which aggravates the ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Evaluating spatial and temporal effects of planned special events on travel time performance measures

open access: yesTransportation Research Interdisciplinary Perspectives, 2020
The effect of a planned special event on travel time performance measures varies spatially and temporally based on the type of the planned special event.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
