Evaluation of the appropriateness of buffer zones

open access: yes, 2022
Both the VME location accuracy and a buffer zone are considered when delineating the closure boundary around VMEs. ICES is confident that the buffer zone considerations used to define the boundaries around the area closures are appropriate and therefore adequate for the protection of VMEs. A schematic diagram of the approach to generate buffer zones is

Buffer zones: An unresolved problem

open access: yes, 1993
Protected areas are increasingly threatened by developments outside their boundaries. Although there is a general agreement that buffer zones are necessary to ensure the sustained development of those areas, there is little agreement as to how this should be achieved while the very survival of protected areas depends on their proper protection from the

Body-Buffer Zone

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1964
Measurements of personal space, the area immediately surrounding an individual, demonstrate its reality and its function as a bodybuffer zone in interpersonal transactions. The idea of personal space entered behavioral science with ethologic studies of territoriality.1,2Subsequently, anthropologists noted that human spatial use was an important ...

Routing with transmission buffer zones in MANETs

2009 IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks & Workshops, 2009
Dealing with link breaks in MANETs is a challenge for the routing protocol. This paper proposes a mechanism to reduce the negative impact of link breaks on the routing. The transmission area of a node is divided into a safe zone close to the node and an unsafe zone (i.e. buffer zone) near the end of the transmission range.

Body-Buffer Zone in Violent Prisoners

American Journal of Psychiatry, 1970
Comparative measurement of the body-buffer zones of eight violent and six non-violent prisoners showed the zones of the violent group to be almost four times larger. In the violent group the rear zones were larger than the front zones; in the non-violent group the front zones were larger.

Pesticide buffer zones for the protection of wildlife

Pest Management Science, 2003
AbstractBuffer zones can play important roles in agricultural habitats, both in the protection of off‐crop habitats from pesticide and fertiliser drift and run‐off, and in providing important areas of non‐crop habitats. Their role in the protection of aquatic habitats from pesticide drift is a significant feature of pesticide risk management, but they ...
