Implantable Ionic Memristors Based on Natural Polymer Heterojunctions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report an implantable natural polymer‐based ionic memristor composed of hyaluronic acid, chitosan, and PDMS. The device achieved 98.94% accuracy in MNIST classification while reducing training time by 36.8% compared with a conventional artificial neural network (ANN).

Opportunity knocks for the new breed of Enterpise Zones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Enterprise Zones were first introduced in the U.K. in 1980 and their influence, and the distortion they create in local property markets, is well recognised and long?lived. There is a wealth of literature both from the U.K. and U.S.A.

Biodegradable and Biocompatible Functional Polymers for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biodegradable and biocompatible functional polymers integrate electrical, mechanical, and stimuli‐responsive functionalities while enabling programmed degradation under physiological conditions. This review introduces recent advances in conductive, shape‐memory, self‐healing, photocurable, and adhesive polymer systems, emphasizing material design ...

Conformational Switching of Proteins on Material Surfaces Enabled by Peptide‐Oriented Adsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Responsive biointerfaces could be achieved using conformationally responsive proteins; however, their interconversion can be lost upon surface adsorption. Herein, we demonstrate that the incorporation a Au binding peptide into calmodulin allows for binding control on Au wherein the protein retains conformational switching. This capability was confirmed

How to increase the effectiveness of agri-environmental subsidy schemes through knowledge of farmer perceptions-a choice experiment on pesticide free buffer zones [PDF]

open access: yes
Danish farmers have been far less interested in agri-environmental subsidy schemes than anticipated. We use choice experiments to estimate 486 Danish farmers’ preferences for a number of policy relevant scheme-characteristics.

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Ecological restoration in the Pannonian Basin: evaluation of native species performance and implications for adaptive landscape planning

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Ecological restoration in protected areas plays a key role in halting biodiversity loss, particularly within the context of global and national biodiversity targets. This study evaluates the success of a restoration project implemented in the buffer zone

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Zones humides et "aérisme" à l'époque moderne [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
International audienceThis article offers a new interpretation of the medical "aérisme". The focusing of look towards the end of XVIIIth century ended up eclipsing the age of medical cogitation on poor air and efforts unfolded by monarchal power and ...
