Building the workforce analytics function
This chapter examines the development of workforce analytics (WFA) capabilities in organizations. It proposes a new WFA maturity matrix based on the equilibrium between “push” factors (WFA team capabilities) and “pull” factors (organizational demand).McCartney, Steven, Minbaeva, Dana

Building the functional performance model of a processor
Proceedings of the 2006 ACM symposium on Applied computing, 2006In this paper, we present an efficient procedure for building a piecewise linear function approximation of the speed function of a processor with hierarchical memory structure. The procedure tries to minimize the experimental time used for building the speed function approximation.

Building a hierarchical representation of membership functions
Proceedings Tenth IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (Cat. No.98CH36294), 2002Deriving inference rules from training examples is one of the most common machine-learning approaches. Fuzzy systems that can automatically derive fuzzy if-then rules and membership functions from numeric data have recently been developed. In this paper, we propose a new hierarchical representation for membership functions, and design a procedure to ...

Functionalized Helical Building Blocks for Nanoelectronics
Organic Letters, 2018Molecular building blocks are designed and created for the cis- and trans-dibrominated perylenediimides. The syntheses are simple and provide these useful materials on the gram scale. To demonstrate their synthetic versatility, these building blocks were used to create new dimeric perylenediimide helixes.

Building an Effective Information Systems Function
MIS Quarterly, 1980The small number of truly successful Information Systems departments is well known. Part of the problem clearly lies in the management and direction of the Information Systems department in an organization. The organizations with successful Information Systems departments appear to have some elements in common.

OFFICE BUILDING COSTS AS A FUNCTION OF BUILDING ENVELOPE DESIGN
Architectural Science Review, 1973SUMMARY Building design derived from exploration of cost and performance levels of a sufficient range of design alternatives to enable selection of something like an optimum combination for the money available can he helped as much by the development of suitable computational routines as by further refinement of direct measurement of performance.

The agenda-building function of political tweets
New Media & Society, 2013This article expands the scope of agenda-building research, which has traditionally focused on the ability of press releases, press conferences, and political ads to influence media coverage. In-depth interviews with political reporters and editors at US newspapers during the 2012 campaign found that tweets from political leaders are used by ...

Remarks on harmonic functions on affine buildings
2004Let ∆ be a thick affine building of type ~ A_2. We prove that each positive harmonic function on ∆ is the Poisson transform of a positive measure on the maximal boundary Ω. Moreover we prove that if f is weakly harmonic and bounded, then f is harmonic.

Institution-building, not nation-building: a structural-functional model
International Review of Administrative Sciences, 2011By building on the essential tenets of Parsonian structural-functionalism, this article focuses on structure, process, and norms as critical to the development of enduring institutions. The contemporary orientation to nation-building that tends to focus on the structural and administrative elements of state reconstruction, especially in post-conflict ...
