A Study on the Global and Spatial Distribution Evaluation of the Geometric State of Exterior Walls Based on Point Clouds

open access: yesBuildings
This study proposes an integrated terrestrial laser scanning (TLS)-based workflow for quantitatively and spatially assessing the relative geometric condition of exterior wall surfaces.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Private home, public cultural asset: The maintenance behaviour of listed building owner occupiers

open access: yes, 2006
This article examines the maintenance behaviour of listed building owner-occupiers. In particular it evaluates the degree to which owners are aware of and undertake maintenance of their building from a conservation perspective, which emphasises ...

A service-life cycle approach to maintenance and energy retrofit planning for building portfolios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
\ua9 2019 The Authors Residential buildings account for almost a quarter of the total energy use in Sweden and building owners are, therefore, under pressure from policy makers to improve the energy performance of their buildings.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Integrated reliability centred maintenance approach in public sector facilities management. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) is focused on ensuring an asset continues to provide its designed function in its present operating context. Through a number of stages, RCM allows for thorough and constant monitoring of assets to maintain their ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Building an ontological knowledgebase for bridge maintenance [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Engineering Software, 2019
The operation stage has the biggest potential value in the bridge life cycle management, and it often critically influences the overall cost of the bridge. As such, changes in the efficiency of the project's operation stage could be of significant benefit to the overall project.
