The case for bulk metallic glass

open access: yesMaterials Today, 2004
Abstract The last ten years have seen the discovery of amorphous metal alloys that are glass forming at cooling rates as slow as 1°C s −1 to 100°C s −1 in the bulk via conventional metal processing such as casting, but with the ease of molding of polymers.

Fast Charge–Discharge of LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05 Enabled by a Bikitaite‐Infused Separator for Li Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bikitaite‐infused cellulose separator is introduced for Li metal batteries, leveraging bikitaite zeolite's ion‐conductive properties to regulate Li+‐ion flux and suppress dendrite growth. The membrane design ensures uniform Li plating, enhanced electrolyte wettability, and robust thermal/mechanical stability, delivering stable performance and low ...

Melting and Crystallization of Nd60Al10Fe20Co10 Bulk Metallic Glass under High Pressure

open access: yes, 2003
Crystallization, melting and structural evolution upon crystallization in Nd60Al10Fe20Co10 bulk metallic glass (BMG) are in situ investigated by x-ray diffraction with synchrotron radiation under high pressure.

Machine Learning‐Assisted Inverse Design of Soft and Multifunctional Hybrid Liquid Metal Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A machine learning framework is presented for inverse design of synthesizable multifunctional composites containing both liquid metal and solid inclusions. By integrating physics‐based modeling, data‐driven prediction, and Bayesian optimization, the approach enables intelligent design of experiments to identify optimal compositions and realize these ...

Mechanical Relaxation-to-Rejuvenation Transition in a Zr-based Bulk Metallic Glass

open access: yes, 2017
The relaxation of amorphous materials i.e. aging would largely endanger their performances in service. Here we report a mechanical relaxation-to-rejuvenation transition of a Zr35Ti30Be27.Cu-5(7.5) bulk metallic glass (BMG) in elastostatic compression at ...

Composition formulas of Fe-based transition metals-metalloid bulk metallic glasses derived from dual-cluster model of binary eutectics

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
It is known that bulk metallic glasses follow simple composition formulas [cluster](glue atom)1 or 3 with 24 valence electrons within the framework of the cluster-plus-glue-atom model.

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.

Synthesis and mechanical properties of Cu-based bulk metallic glass composites containing in-situ TiC particles

open access: yes, 2005
Cu-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites (BMGMCs) containing in-situ TiC particles were fabricated successfully. The yield and fracture strength increased from 1930 MPa, 2250 MPa to 2210 MPa, 2500 MPa, respectively.
