Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Computation of ground waves from pile driving and their effects on structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Present guidance on levels of vibration generated by pile driving is primarily empirical, conservative and often contradictory. The objective of this research was to model the ground waves generated by pile driving using the ABAQUS finite element program

Titanium Suboxides Responsible for Electronic Anomaly Near Room Temperature in the Ti3C2Tx MXene

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Our multi‐technique study reveals that the near‐room‐temperature anomaly in Ti3C2Tx MXene is linked to titanium suboxide nanodomains, including Ti3O5, embedded within the MXene host. Their temperature‐driven transformation provides an alternative explanation to solvent‐ and swelling‐based models and offers new insight into the thermally activated ...

Two-dimensional wave packets in an elastic solid with couple stresses

open access: yes, 2004
The problem of (2+1) (two spatial and one temporal) dimensional wave propagation in a bulk medium composed of an elastic material with couple stresses is considered.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Hydrodynamics and morphodynamics in the swash zone: hydralab III large-scale experiments

open access: yes, 2011
The modelling of swash zone hydrodynamics and sediment transport and the resulting morphodynamics has been an area of very active research over the last decade. However, many details are still to be understood, whose knowledge will be greatly advanced by

Modelling techniques for the study of molecular self-organisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this thesis we develop computational techniques for modelling molecular selforganisation. After a short review of the current nanotechnological applications of molecular self-assembly and the main problems encountered in modelling the selforganised

Ultrasensitive Anti‐Stokes Luminescence Thermometry in Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Monolayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a highly sensitive nanothermometer using anti‐Stokes photoluminescence, also known as photoluminescence upconversion (UPL), in monolayer tungsten disulfide. A strong resonantly enhanced UPL is observed, confirming the central role of optical phonons in the PL upconversion mechanism.

Computational studies of one and two-dimensional photonic microstructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This work is concerned with the study of photonic crystals and other topical photonic microstructures, whose optical properties are investigated by solving the Maxwell equations using appropriate theoretical and computational schemes, which are described.

Variational formulation of pre-stressed solid–fluid mixture theory, with an application to wave phenomena

open access: yes, 2008
International audienceFluid saturated porous media are modelled by the theory of mixtures and the placement maps of the solid and of the fluid are considered.
