Abstract In an isolated bullfrog retina preparation, macro- and micropolarographic techniques were used to measure retinal oxygen consumption in (1) the presence of active sodium transport, in light and darkness, and (2) conditions in which Na + transport was inhibited by iso-osmotic Na + replacement or ouabain.

Summary The bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana, is capable of giving a vigorous isoimmune response to skin homografts, both as a larva and as an adult. First-set skin homografts showed the same median survival times (11.8 ± 0.6 to 13.6 ± 1.0 days) at 25°C on animals ranging in age from 2 months to 2 years.

Highly purified bullfrog growth hormone (GH) was tested for growth promoting activity in rats and bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana). In repeated assays, the potency of bullfrog GH in the rat tibia assay was 1 X bovine GH, which is significantly greater than all other non-mammalian GHs tested.

Epinephrine and norepinephrine contents of tissues and perfusates have been measured by fluorimetric methods to ascertain which catecholamine is the sympathetic transmitter in bullfrogs and turtles. Except for adrenal and sympathetic chain, the predominant catecholamine in bullfrogs is epinephrine.

Electron microscopic studies of developing bullfrog tadpole oocytes have demonstrated cylindrical structures, 150 m μ in cross-sectional diameter and with a linearly continuous central core 35 m μ in diameter, present singly and in tangled or parallel clusters within the cytoplasm.
