Burden of Proof in International Arbitration

open access: yes, 2017
Rarely the regulations of international arbitration contain a rule on the burden of proof. It is burden that is distributed following the rules of logic and common sense. In any case it is not necessary to prove notorious and uncontested facts. The

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

A perspective on the PCPNDT Act

open access: yesIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, 2012
Background: An important modern diagnostic tool, used for monitoring pregnancy and genetic defects; the ultrasound machine, has also become a selective killer of the female child. The male child preference in India was responsible for female infanticides

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Reducing the Costs of Proof Assistant Based Formal Verification or : Conviction without the Burden of Proof [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis considers the challenge of fully formal software verification in the demanding and foundational context of mechanical proof assistants. While this approach offers the strongest guarantees for software correctness, it has traditionally imposed

CONCEPTUAL DEFINITION OF THE BURDEN OF PROOF AND OTHER RELATED TERMS

open access: yesIustinianus Primus Law Review, 2019
The paper examines the concept of burden of proof in the criminal proceedings and other related terms that are similar but not same as burden of proof. Making the distinction between burden of proof and terms like an evidential burden, standard of proof

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.
