ABSTRACT Cytosolic phosphoenoylpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK‐C) is an essential, rate‐limiting enzyme in the gluconeogenesis pathway. PEPCK‐C deficiency presents with hypoglycaemia, hyperlactataemia and hepatopathy, and was first reported in association with bi‐allelic PCK1 variants in 2014.

Abstract Neuroanatomical research has progressed considerably in several vertebrate lineages, yet studies of reptilian brain morphology remain markedly underdeveloped. Here we provide the first description of macroscopic brain anatomy and its ontogeny in the viperid Bothrops moojeni, based on a sample of seven individuals.

Microstructure observations and mixing parameterizations along an Atlantic transect in very weak turbulence [PDF]
Microstructure measurements of shear and temperature can be used to calculate ocean turbulent dissipation rates and diffusivities. Here microstructure observations are taken along an transect in the North Atlantic, that includes observations of very weak

Abstract Aspect‐Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) has evolved from textual analysis to a multimodal paradigm, integrating visual information to capture nuanced sentiments. Despite advancements, existing Multimodal ABSA (MABSA) research remains limited in granularity, which focuses on either coarse‐level categories or named entities, neglecting fine ...

Geometric methods for estimation of structured covariances [PDF]
We consider problems of estimation of structured covariance matrices, and in particular of matrices with a Toeplitz structure. We follow a geometric viewpoint that is based on some suitable notion of distance. To this end, we overview and compare several

While providing potentially life‐saving cardiorespiratory support for critically ill patients, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may detrimentally affect pharmacokinetic (PK) performance and concurrent drug efficacy and safety. We describe a patient with Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) in the context of acquired immunodeficiency ...

Faulty Successive Cancellation Decoding of Polar Codes for the Binary Erasure Channel
In this paper, faulty successive cancellation decoding of polar codes for the binary erasure channel is studied. To this end, a simple erasure-based fault model is introduced to represent errors in the decoder and it is shown that, under this model ...

Abstract Knowing about species interactions is essential for ecological research, conservation efforts, resource management, and maintaining healthy ecosystems, but many of these, such as reports of predation, may not always be published in easily located resources—if they are published at all.
