An Analysis of Occupational Burn Injuries in Rhode Island: Workers' Compensation Claims 1998-2002 [PDF]

open access: yes
Background - upational burns have been determined to be a serious public health concern. The analysis of workplace risks and risk factors associated with burns are critical to developing effective interventions in the future.

Burn Rate Studies of a Titanium-Based Ptrotechnic Smoke Composition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A pyrotechnic smoke composition producing titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) as one of the major reaciion products hasj been studied. The composition consists of titanium metal powder, hexachloroethae (C2CI6), potassium perchlorate (KCIO4) and titanium ...

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.

BURN RATE DETERMINATION FROM THE STATIC TEST RESULTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Solid rocket motor design is an iterative process. As a first step, burn rate coefficients from the strand burner were used for initial motor sizing. Static test is done to measure the performance of rocket motor.

Intraoperative Feeding Improves Calorie and Protein Delivery in Acute Burn Patients. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Enteral nutrition support is a critical component of modern burn care for severely burned patients. However, tube feeds are frequently withheld during the perioperative period because of aspiration concerns.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Reactive burn models and ignition & growth concept

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2011
Plastic-bonded explosives are heterogeneous materials. Experimentally, shock initiation is sensitive to small amounts of porosity, due to the formation of hot spots (small localized regions of high temperature).
