Diet of bird‐like troodontid dinosaurs: synthesis of a contentious clade

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 1760-1778, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Troodontidae is a clade of small‐to medium‐sized maniraptoran theropods that mainly lived in Laurasia (modern Asia, North America and Europe) during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and are believed to have had a variety of diets. The uniqueness of troodontid teeth suggests that they diverged from the typical flesh‐based diet of non‐avian ...

Field Studies on the Influence of High‐Voltage Direct Transmission Underground Cables on Soils Along the SuedLink Route in Southwest Germany

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Volume 189, Issue 4, Page 479-498, August 2026.
During regular operation of the SuedLink at a load ≤75 %, the average increase in temperature in the plowing horizon is expected to be less than 1.6°C in the soils along the route in Southwest Germany. ABSTRACT Background The SuedLink was planned as a high‐voltage direct‐current underground cable route. The construction itself is a massive intervention

A comparison of monitoring methods for inferring demographics of a pond‐breeding amphibian population over 14 years

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
We used 4 sampling methods to estimate or index the abundance and sex ratio of spotted salamanders (Ambystoma maculatum) over 14 years. The present study highlights the importance of considering individual heterogeneity in capture probability when estimating abundance of pond‐breeding amphibians from capture data with imperfect detection. DNA barcoding for identification of species involved in wildlife strikes at Brazilian airports

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
A collaborative network of 42 Brazilian airports applied DNA barcoding to identify 80 species involved in wildlife strikes. Among them, 32 species (17 birds and 15 bats) were not currently available in Brazil's wildlife strike reporting database, underscoring the value of molecular tools for strengthening wildlife strike monitoring. Abstract This study

Little penguins select more isolated nest boxes for breeding, but lay date influences breeding success

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
We determined that more isolated and possibly older nest boxes were selected by little penguins for breeding at Pōhatu/Flea Bay, New Zealand. However, breeding success was influenced by lay date in comparison to nest box characteristics. These findings inform immediate conservation recommendations regarding nest box design and placement.
