Unveiling the Role of Curvature in Carbon for Improved Energy Release of Ammonium Perchlorate

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
High‐curvature carbon materials identified via machine learning and simulation can enhance the heat release and combustion performance of ammonium perchlorate. ABSTRACT The catalytic role of carbon curvature in the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) remains largely unexplored. To address this gap, this study employs machine learning and

Loss rate-based burst assembly to resolve contention in optical burst switching networks

open access: yesIET Communications, 2008
Two loss rate-based optical burst assembly techniques addressing contention resolution are studied. These techniques stem from the burst assembly schemes using adaptive thresholds, which have been introduced earlier by the authors. The loss rates on the links/paths leading to the destination nodes are used to estimate congestion levels.

Lipid‐Polymer Nanoparticles Mediate Compartmentalized Delivery of Cas9 and sgRNA for Glioblastoma Vasculature and Immune Reprogramming

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Hypervascularized glioblastoma is naturally sensitive to anti‐angiogenesis but suffers from low efficacy of transient vasculature normalization. In this study, a lipid‐polymer nanoparticle is synthesized to execute compartmentalized Cas9 and sgRNA ...

Concepts for the development of light-weight composite structures for rotor burst containment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Published results on rotor burst containment with single materials, and on body armor using composite materials were used to establish a set of hypotheses about what variables might control the design of a weight-efficient protective device.

Experimental Upper Bound on Superradiance Emission from Mn12 Acetate

open access: yes, 2004
We used a Josephson junction as a radiation detector to look for evidence of the emission of electromagnetic radiation during magnetization avalanches in a crystal assembly of Mn_12-Acetate.

A Novel Burst Assembly Algorithm for Optical Burst Switched Networks Based on Learning Automata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is widely believed to be the technology for the future core network in the Internet. Burst assembly time at the ingress node is known to affect the traffic characteristics and loss distribution in the core network. We propose an algorithm for adapting the burst assembly time based on the observed loss pattern in the ...

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

Elastomeric Micro‐Balloons for Remote Control of Cerebral Blood Flow and Real‐Time In vivo Imaging of Rodent Brain Response to Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of MRI‐compatible elastomeric micro‐balloons via a multi‐step bubble casting process, where the monolithic elastomeric wall is selectively stiffened for reversible and controlled inflation and elasticity, depending on the target vessels for graded occlusion of cerebral arteries.

Design and Fabrication of Detector Module for UFFO Burst Alert & Trigger Telescope

open access: yes, 2011
The Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) pathfinder is a space mission devoted to the measurement of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), especially their early light curves which will give crucial information on the progenitor stars and central engines of the GRBs ...
