Bus stop-skipping scheme with random travel time
Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, 2013When a bus is late and behind schedule, the stop-skipping scheme allows the bus vehicle to skip one or more stops to reduce its travel time. The deadheading problem is a special case of the stop-skipping problem, allowing a bus vehicle to skip stops between the dispatching terminal point and a designated stop.

An Integrated Framework for Intercity Bus Scheduling Under Stochastic Bus Travel Times
Transportation Science, 2008In this research, we develop an integrated framework to help the intercity bus carriers plan bus routes and schedules under stochastic bus travel times. Unlike past research, where stochastic disturbances in the planning and real-time stages are handled separately, the integrated framework embedded in an iterative solution process combines these two ...

Estimation of bus travel time incorporating dwell time for APTS applications
2009 IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium, 2009Congestion has become a serious problem in the context of urban transport around the world. As more and more vehicles are being introduced into the urban streets every year, the mode share of the public transportation sector is declining at an alarming rate.

Subjective value of time in bus transit travel
Transportation, 1981A psychological scaling technique, magnitude estimation, is used to rate time spent on various elements of bus transit trips. Relative values of time are found for in-vehicle portions of trips, walking, waiting and transferring. Because magnitude estimation produces a ratio scale, results can be directly incorporated into modal choice analyses, route ...

Dynamic Bus Scheduling Based on Real-Time Demand and Travel Time
International Journal of Civil Engineering, 2019Dynamic scheduling of buses, which adapts to the current passenger demand and traffic conditions, will help in ensuring an efficient service to the commuters and maximizing the profit for operators. A fixed schedule with a constant headway, which is currently used widely, may lead to inadequate number of buses during peak periods and under-utilization ...
