Borders and business cycles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of International Economics, 1999
We document that business cycles of U.S. Census regions are substantially more synchronized than those of European Union countries, both over the past four decades and the past two decades. Data from regions within the four largest European countries confirm the presence of a European border effect—within-country correlations are substantially larger ...

Black Hole Quencher‐Enhanced Plasmonic Photothermal Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers have developed a universal method to boost plasmonic photothermal conversion by attaching black hole quencher (BHQ) molecules to matched metal nanostructures. This hybrid approach increases efficiency by roughly threefold, reaching up to 69.1% in the near‐infrared‐II window.

Rocket‐Inspired Sequentially Targeted Nanotherapeutics for Mitochondrial Regulation and Inflammatory Reprogramming in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel neutrophil‐hitchhiking, rocket‐inspired nanoplatform is developed to cross the blood‐brain barrier for sequential, spatiotemporal drug delivery. By responsive surface transformation in the ischemic penumbra, it precisely targets mitochondria to suppress Drp1‐mediated fission.

How can the preferences of policy makers be operationalised in optimum control problems with macroeconometric models? A case study for Slovenian fiscal policies

open access: yesPublic Sector Economics
In this paper, we use the results of a survey among Slovenian politicians in order to design an objective function for an optimal control problem with a macroeconometric model for fiscal policy in Slovenia that takes account of policy makers’ preferences.

Skyscrapers and Business Cycles

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2005
The skyscraper index, created by economist Andrew Lawrence shows a correlation between the construction of the world’s tallest building and the business cycle. Is this just a coincidence, or perhaps do skyscrapers cause business cycles? A theoretical foundation of “Cantillon effects” for the skyscraper index is provided here showing how the basic ...

Machine Learning‐Assisted Design and Performance Prediction of a Compact Dual‐Band Polarization‐Insensitive THz Metamaterial Absorber for Skin‐Cancer‐Related Refractive‐Index Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A compact QASRR‐based THz metamaterial absorber enables polarization‐insensitive dual‐band absorption and skin‐cancer‐related refractive‐index sensing through measurable resonance shifts. Field, surface‐current, and circuit analyses clarify the dual‐resonance mechanism, while StackNet‐assisted prediction accurately estimates the simulated absorption ...

The impact of uncertainty on business cycles in Brazil

open access: yesEstudos Econômicos
The literature on the determinants of short-run fluctuations in economic activity abound but attempts to account for the role of uncertainty only emerged after the Great Recession.
