Alterations in juvenile diploid and triploid African catfish skin gelatin yield and amino acid composition: effects of chlorpyrifos and butachlor exposures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Skin is a major by-product of the fisheries and aquaculture industries and is a valuable source of gelatin. This study examined the effect of triploidization on gelatin yield and proximate composition of the skin of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus ...

Herbicidal interference: glyphosate drives both the ecology and evolution of plant–herbivore interactions

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 245, Issue 2, Page 807-817, January 2025.
Summary The coevolution of plants and their insect herbivores reflects eco‐evolutionary dynamics at work – ecological interactions influence adaptive traits, which feed back to shape the broader ecological community. However, novel anthropogenic stressors like herbicide, which are strong selective agents, can disrupt these dynamics.

Sub‐Saharan African Oilseeds as Functional Ingredients: Nutritional Profiles, Bioactivities, and Strategies for Enhanced Utilization in Food and Pharmaceutical Systems

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Oilseeds native to sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA) represent a nutritionally and economically significant yet underutilized resource for enhancing food and nutrition security. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the nutritional composition, bioactive constituents, and processing technologies associated with indigenous SSA oilseeds, highlighting their

Efeitos de herbicidas nos teores de clorofilas de Spirodela punctata Effect of the herbicides on the chlorophyll content of Spirodela punctata

open access: yesPlanta Daninha, 1999

Silicon tackles butachlor toxicity in rice seedlings by regulating anatomical characteristics, ascorbate-glutathione cycle, proline metabolism and levels of nutrients

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Reckless use of herbicides like butachlor (Buta) in the fields represents a serious threat to crop plants, and hence to their productivity. Silicon (Si) is well known for its implication in the alleviation of the effects of abiotic stresses; however, its

Finger millet (Eleusine coracana) improvement: Challenges and prospects—A review

open access: yesPlant Breeding, Volume 143, Issue 3, Page 350-374, June 2024.
Abstract Finger millet is a climate‐resilient and highly nutritious small grain crop widely grown in the semi‐arid tropics. It has multiple uses, including for food, feed and beverage preparations. However, finger millet is an under‐utilized and under‐researched crop with a mean yield of <1.0 t/ha despite a potential productivity of up to 8 t/ha.

BEHAVIOURAL RESPONSES OF AFRICAN CATFISH ( Clarias gariepinus BURCHELL, 1822) JUVENILES EXPOSED TO ACUTE CONCENTRATIONS OF BUTACHLOR (HERBICIDE)

open access: yesFUDMA Journal of Sciences, 2021
This study examined the behavioral changes induced by butachlor to the juveniles of Clarias gariepinus. The experiment consists of five treatments (0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and 1.0 mg/l) and a control.

In silico identification and expression analysis of glutathione S‐transferase in Tenebrio molitor

open access: yesEntomological Research, Volume 54, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract Selective herbicides are used to control undesirable vegetation or weeds in fields without harming crops. Herbicide use for weed management can directly impact the densities of insect pests in agricultural communities as a result of insect mortality during and immediately after application.

The application of biochar improves the nutrient supply efficiency of organic fertilizer, sustains soil quality and promotes sustainable crop production

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 13, Issue 1, January/February 2024.
Abstract Rapeseed meal, a nutritious organic fertilizer (OF), contributes to improving soil environment and crop productivity. However, there are also problems, namely slow fertilizer efficiency and low nutrient utilization during the growing season.
