Sex-based defensive behavior influenced by threat level in the scorpion Tityus pusillus (Scorpiones: Buthidae)

open access: yesThe journal of arachnology, 2021
. Scorpion venom is composed mainly of peptides and proteins and has high metabolic cost. Thus, individuals need to be economic in its use. This study aimed to evaluate the reactions of Tityus pusillus Pocock, 1893 scorpion to threats of different ...

Three Novel Spider Genomes Unveil Spidroin Diversification and Hox Cluster Architecture: Ryuthela nishihirai (Liphistiidae), Uloborus plumipes (Uloboridae) and Cheiracanthium punctorium (Cheiracanthiidae)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Spiders are a hyperdiverse taxon and among the most abundant predators in nearly all terrestrial habitats. Their success is often attributed to key developments in their evolution such as silk and venom production and major apomorphies such as a whole‐genome duplication.

Effects of landscape metrics on scorpion (Arachnida: Scorpiones) assemblage in a tropical urban ecosystem

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2024.
Urban landscapes restrain the distribution of forest‐dwelling species. Urban forests can support scorpion assemblages. However, there is a turnover in specialist forest species for opportunistic species Abstract Urban landscapes restrain the distribution of forest‐dwelling species, which may be related to challenging conditions that impair body ...
