Compact Butler Matrix using size reduced elements

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 2007
AbstractThis article presents the design and realization of a compact 4×4 Butler Matrix for feeding a smart antenna array. The circuit using size reduced elements together with a novel topology occupies only 29% of the size of a conventional Butler Matrix without any loss in performance. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Development of Crossover-Free 8 × 8 Butler Matrix for 2.4 GHz Beamsteering Applications

2024 IEEE Workshop on Microwave Theory and Technology in Wireless Communications (MTTW)
In this paper, a crossover-free $8 \times 8$ Butler matrix is developed for 2.4 GHz beamsteering applications. The design aims to address the limitations of conventional $8 \times 8$ Butler matrices, which suffer from significant insertion losses and ...

Miniaturized 4×4 Butler Matrix Using Slow-Wave Ridged Half-Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems - II - Express Briefs
This brief proposes a miniaturized $4\times4$ Butler matrix using slow-wave ridged half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (RHMSIW). By etching the metal ridge of RHMSIW with periodic grooves, slow-wave characteristic is enabled with increased phase ...

A butler matrix design for directional antenna

2017 USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (Joint with AP-S Symposium), 2017
This paper demonstrates an 8 × 8 Butler Matrix design that does not employ cross-overs. The Butler Matrix was manufactured on a single side of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and is intended for use with a low-profile C-band directional antenna array. This solution provides an effective methodology for electronically switching beam states of a planner ...

Novel Ultra-Wideband CB-CBW Butler matrix

2008 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2008
An ultra-wideband 4x4 CB-CPW Butler matrix has been designed using a two-layer structure. In the proposed design, a combination of a CB-CPW slot-coupled directional coupler and UWB crossover were employed to widen the bandwidth of the Butler matrix and reducing the number of crossovers.

Planar Quarter-Wavelength Patch Antenna Array Integrated with Capacitor-Based Butler Matrix for Compact Switched-Beam Systems

Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Electromagnetics
This work presents the design of a compact switched-beam system (SBS) for advanced wireless communication networks. To achieve a compact design, a capacitor-based Butler matrix (BM) and quarter-wavelength patch antennas arranged in a planar array are ...

Wideband butler matrix in microstrip-slot technology

2009 Asia Pacific Microwave Conference, 2009
The design of a 4 × 4 Butler Matrix for use in a multi-beam antenna array operating over wide frequency band is presented. In order to achieve wideband characteristics, the matrix uses microstrip-slot technology that employs two microstrip dielectric layers with a common ground plane and a coupling slot.

A Coupler with Programmable Characteristic for Butler Matrix Applications

2024 IEEE Workshop on Microwave Theory and Technology in Wireless Communications (MTTW)
This paper presents a coupler with programmable phase-difference characteristic implementable for Butler Matrix applications. To achieve the characteristics, capacitors are placed at each intersection of the series and parallel arms of a branch line-type

Compact Butler Matrix Using Lumped Elements

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters
ABSTRACTThis paper describes the design of a new compact circuit for Butler Matrix using few lumped elements to operate at 2.4 GHz. It is demonstrated that acceptable performance could be only achieved by proper electromagnetic modeling of the lumped components using metallic pads and resistor, inductor, and/or capacitor surfaces in Ansys HFSS, to ...
