A compact butler matrix for WLAN application

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 2010
AbstractIn this article, a compact butler matrix for wireless communications is designed and implemented at 2.4 GHz using defected ground structures (DGS).The butler matrix consists of a 3‐dB coupler, crossover (0‐dB coupler), and phase shifter. The 3‐dB coupler and crossover are compacted using T‐model of transmission line and DGS.

Design of Wideband 8×8 Butler Matrix using Composite Right/Left-handed Transmission Line for Multi-mode OAM Generation

Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Journal (ACES)
In this paper, a wideband Butler matrix for the uniform circular array antenna (UCA) generating multi-mode orbital angular momentum (OAM) vortex wave is designed. Firstly, the novel network topology of a Butler matrix is proposed.

A Novel Design of Miniaturized Butler Matrix

2018 IEEE 18th International Conference on Communication Technology (ICCT), 2018
In this paper, we design a stepped miniaturized 4 × 4 Butler matrix using the principle of impedance transformation. Compared with the traditional Butler matrix, the miniaturized Butler matrix has a reduced area of 78.6%, and the output amplitude is stable, the output phase gradient meets the design requirements.

Microstrip Butler matrix design and realization for 7 T MRI

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 2011
AbstractThis article presents the design and realization of 8 × 8 and 16 × 16 Butler matrices for 7 T MRI systems. With the focus on low insertion loss and high amplitude/phase accuracy, the microstrip line integration technology (microwave‐integrated circuit) was chosen for the realization.

Reconfigurable Phase-Difference Characteristics of Compact 4×4 Butler Matrix Structures

2024 International Microwave and Antenna Symposium (IMAS)
This paper presents the reconfigurable phase-difference characteristics of compact Butler matrix (BM) structures. The reconfigurable phase-difference characteristics are achieved by altering the phase-differences of couplers contained in the BM structure.

Two-Dimensional Butler Matrix Concept for Planar Array

2018 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium - IMS, 2018
A new concept of the two-dimensional (2-D) Butler Matrix (BM) is proposed for 2-D beam steering of a 2-D planar array. An example of a $\pmb{16\times 16}$ BM for a $\pmb{4\times 4}$ planar array is presented. All phase-delay values of the phase shifters in the proposed BM can be calculated merely from traditional $\pmb{4\times 4}$ BM by summation

Ultra wideband coupler design for Butler Matrix application

The 17th Asia Pacific Conference on Communications, 2011
This paper presents a design of a 3-dB compact ultra wideband (UWB) coupler for a 4×4 Butler Matrix which is operating between 3 and 11 GHz frequency range. The design is using microstrip-slot multilayer technology that allows having a compact and very broad bandwidth coupler.

Planar Butler Matrix Based on Compact Taps

2019 IEEE East-West Design & Test Symposium (EWDTS), 2019
The paper presents a planar Butler matrix operating in the range of 0.9-1.05 GHz, implemented on compact directional couplers. The intersecting lines in the matrix are implemented based on the crossover. Modeling and electrodynamic analysis of the circuits was performed in the NI-AWR Design Environment program.
