The Ancient Greek Datives in ‐essi: Contact or Independent Innovations?1

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, Volume 121, Issue 3, Page 357-381, November 2023., 2023
Abstract The Ancient Greek datives in ‐essi have posed a longstanding challenge in Greek linguistics, with their traditional categorisation as ‘Aeolic’ but their widespread presence across Aeolic and non‐Aeolic regions. This article investigates the origin and diffusion of this trait, examining both the early Greek evidence (in particular the Lesbian ...

The High Plasma Density Observed Along the PJ57 Juno Flyby of Io Implies the Presence of a Dense Atomic Corona

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract On December 2023, the Juno spacecraft made a flyby of Io above the northern hemisphere at a closest approach (CA) altitude of ∼1,500 km (PJ57). The Juno/Waves and Radio‐occultation measurements showed a surprising large electron density ∼28,000 cm−3 near closest approach.

PROVINCIALISING BERLIN IN MENSCHEN IM HOTEL

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, Volume 79, Issue 1, Page 57-74, January 2026.
ABSTRACT In this article, I take the peculiar source of Vicki Baum's Menschen im Hotel (1929) in a Southern Moravian town as a starting point to reveal the ways in which the hierarchies between metropolis and province are negotiated and complicated by the novel.

Mapping the density of giant trees in the Amazon

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 1, Page 152-168, January 2026.
Summary Tall trees (height ≥ 60 m) are keystone elements of tropical forests, strongly influencing biodiversity, carbon storage, and ecosystem resilience. Yet, their density and spatial distribution remain poorly quantified, especially in remote Amazonian regions, limiting our understanding of their ecological roles and contribution to forest–climate ...

Complete Mitochondrial Genomes Provide Evidence of a Killer Whale Refugium Off the Coast of Japan During the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim During glacial periods, highly mobile species often shifted to warmer, ice‐free regions known as refugia, which frequently maintained higher genetic diversity than newly colonised areas after glacial retreat. We analyse complete mitogenome sequences from 11 killer whale samples in Nemuro Strait to test the hypothesis that waters around ...

Clades That Frequently Accumulate Metals Do Not Have Low Abundance in the Tropical Forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 4, July 2025.
Metal accumulation in trees causes abundance decline. However, this is dependent upon clades with the Celastrales, Oxalidales, and Malpighiales, frequent metal accumulators, not having low abundance. ABSTRACT In diverse tropical communities, individuals with more distinct traits typically have lower abundance.
