Bioinspired Tissue Transparency: Achieving Sclera‐to‐Cornea Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioinspired decellularization‐compression‐locking tactic (DCLT) is developed to transform human sclerae into transparent corneal substitutes. These clear, robust, and pro‐regenerative substitutes are capable of repairing complex corneal injuries, including chemical burns, keratoconus, and penetrating wounds, demonstrating their clinical potential to ...

Corneal topography for rigid gas permeable lens fitting in keratoconus: technique and preliminary results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Purpose: To introduce a practical method based on the topographic values for rigid gas-permeable contact lens (RGPCL) fitting in keratoconus patients. Methods: Thirty-three eyes of 17 consecutive patients with keratoconus were studied between July 1997 ...

EGR Proteins Mediate Interferon‐Independent Anti‐HSV‐1 Responses Through Viral and Host Targets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early antiviral responses are typically mediated by interferons. However, during HSV‐1 infection, host early growth response (Egr) genes, which are not interferon‐stimulated genes, are quickly induced by viral protein ICP0. EGR proteins, in turn, suppress viral lytic infection by activating viral latency‐associated (LAT) and host immune regulatory ...

DNA Nanoflower LYTACs Enable Efficient VEGF Degradation and Verteporfin Loading for Combined Therapy of Wet Age‐Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated approach that combines a DNA nanoflower VEGF degrader with photodynamic therapy is developed for the treatment of wet age‐related macular degeneration, which reduces the risk of VEGF reactivation‐induced CNV recurrence and minimizes the systemic side effects associated with photodynamic therapy.

Photothermal Transport for Guiding Nanoparticles Through the Vitreous Humor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanosecond laser irradiation of the clinically approved dye indocyanine green (ICG) enables light‐guided nanoparticle transport within the vitreous humor. The combined use of ICG and pulsed laser illumination induces localized convection and thermophoresis, directing particles toward illuminated regions.

Candida albicans endophthalmitis following penetrating corneal graft: case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The authors report a case of a patient submitted to penetrating corneal graft for keratoconus with an exaggerated inflammatory response during the postoperative period. The patient was suspected of having an atypical rejection to the donor button.
