Cryptococcus neoformans was found as the causative agent of cryptococcosis in 7 (3.6%) out of 195 HIV-positive persons, most of them being hospitalized. These 7 persons included 6 homosexuals and 1 heroin addict. The examinations were performed at the Mycology Unit of the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin (West) between 1984 and 1986.

Role of mannoprotein in induction and regulation of immunity to C. neoformans
2001Our previous observations showed that mannoprotein (MP) induces early and massive production of interleukin-12 (IL-12) in vitro. This study was designed to investigate whether this phenomenon could be applied in vivo and to determine the biological significance of MP in Cryptococcus neoformans infection. The results reported here show that MP treatment
