CORNEAL ULCER DUE TO CANDIDA PARAPSILOSIS (C. PARAKRUSEI)
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1959A patient with superficial punctate keratitis, who was receiving antibiotic and steroid therapy, developed an indolent corneal ulcer due to Candida parapsilosis (C. parakrusei). Treatment, which included use of the antifungal antibiotics nystatin (Mycostatin) and amphotericin B (Fungizone), was followed by slow healing of the ulcer.

The cytochromec oxidase from the yeastCandida parapsilosis
Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1987In the yeast Candida parapsilosis, the proteins encoded by mitochondrial DNA are different in number and size from those of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Nevertheless, the purified cytochrome c oxidase from Candida parapsilosis shows kinetic properties similar to those of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

At the current state of laboratory diagnostics, methods for fast identification of phenotypically indistinguishable species are difficult or inaccurate. An example is represented by Candida parapsilosis, which is the second most common yeast species isolated from bloodstream infections. C.

Candida spp. have attracted considerable attention as they cause serious human diseases in immunocompromised individuals. The genomes of the pathogenic Candida spp. have been sequenced, but systemic characterizations of their kinomes are yet to be reported.

Caspofungin activity was determined in vitro and in vivo against three Candida orthopsilosis, three C. metapsilosis, two C. parapsilosis sensu stricto and two C. albicans isolates. MIC values and killing activity were determined in RPMI-1640 plus 50 % human serum.

Many microorganisms readily form microbial biofilms whose resistance to antimicrobial compounds is several orders of magnitude higher than that of the planktonic form. One such genus is the yeast Candida, whose species include both human commensals and opportunistic pathogens that are the cause of many fungal infections.

Misidentification of Candida parapsilosis as C famata in a Clinical Case of Vertebral Osteomyelitis
The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 2011A case of vertebral osteomyelitis involving misidentification of Candida parapsilosis as C famata by the VITEK 2 compact is described. Species-specific primers were used in the polymerase chain reaction to correctly identify the clinical isolate. When uncommon species of Candida are reported using automated systems, heightened clinical suspicion is ...
