[Cryptosporidiose (C. parvum) in a foal with diarrhea]

open access: yesSchweizer Archiv fur Tierheilkunde, 2009
The protozoon parasite Cryptosporidium parvum is an important cause of diarrhea in farm animals, but it can also infect other animals and humans. In this case report, oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. were microscopically detected by modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining in the feces of a 9 day old Arabian colt presented with yellowish, foul smelling, diarrhea

Immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy for a murine fibrosarcoma with C. Granulosum and C. Parvum

International Journal of Cancer, 1974
AbstractProphylactic and therapeutic effectiveness of killed C. granulosum and C. parvum bacteria was investigated against a methylcholanthrene‐induced fibrosarcoma in syngeneic C3Hf/Bu mice. Subcutaneous or intravenous treatment of mice with 0.25 mg of these bacteria greatly reduced the number of tumor nodules (metastases, colonies) in the lung ...

C. Parvum immunotherapy of transplanted rat tumours

International Journal of Cancer, 1977
AbstractC. parvum (Wellcome CN 6134) has been tested for tumour suppression against a range of syngeneically transplanted rat tumours, both carcinogen‐induced and of spontaneous origin. Subcutaneous growth was not prevented by distant subcutaneous or intravenous injection of the preparation, although growth rates were sometimes depressed or accelerated.

Characterization and potential use of a Cryptosporidium parvum virus (CPV) antigen for detecting C. parvum oocysts

Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2004
The purpose of this study was to characterize the viral symbiont (CPV) of Cryptosporidium parvum sporozoites and evaluate the CPV capsid protein (CPV40) as a target for sensitive detection of the parasite. Recombinant CPV40 was produced in Escherichia coli, purified by affinity chromatography, and used to prepare polyclonal rabbit sera specific for the

C. parvum in germ-free mice

Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy, 1978
The effect of previous sensitization to C. parvum, by cross-reacting antigens from other bacteria, on the immunostimulatory effects of C. parvum treatment were studied in germ-free and conventional mice. It was found that the development of splenomegaly and specific delayed hypersensitivity following C.

Infectivity of Cryptosporidium parvum in healthy adults with pre-existing anti-C. parvum serum immunoglobulin G.

The American journal of tropical medicine and hygiene, 1999
A 50% infectious dose (ID50) of 132 Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts was previously determined in serologically negative individuals (ELISA). In this study, 17 healthy adults with pre-existing anti-C. parvum serum IgG were challenged with 500-50,000 oocysts. Infection and diarrhea were associated with the higher challenge doses.

Evidence for granulocyte-mediated macrophage activation after C. parvum immunization

Cellular Immunology, 1983
It has been previously demonstrated that at the peak of the peritoneal response to Corynebacterium parvum (Day 4), cytolytic macrophages can be characterized by the presence of intracellular bacteria. In the present study, the role of neutrophils in the activation of peritoneal macrophages by C. parvum was investigated.
