The Role of Softening in Elastic Constant c44 in Martensitic Transformation

Low-temperature behavior of the elastic constant C44 in CexLa1−xB6

Abstract We have made the ultrasonic experiments to examine the low-temperature elastic properties in the Kondo compound Ce x La 1− x B 6 for x =0.70, 0.65 and 0.60. The transverse C 44 mode in x =0.70 and 0.65 shows steep decrease as much as 25% around the transition point into the ordered phase IV.

Anomalous temperature behaviour of the shear elastic constant C44 in tantalum

Abstract The adiabatic elastic constants of a pure vanadium single crystal have been measured between 300 and 2100 K in a suitable geometry by means of an ultrasonic method. We find that the shear constant C44 has an anomalous temperature behaviour very similar to that found in niobium.

Absence of dispersion in the elastic shear stiffness c44 of sodium cyanide

Abstract Measurements of the shear stiffness c 44 in cubic NaCN by ultrasonic technique and Brillouin scattering are repeated and compared to values published in the literature. It is demonstrated that there is no dispersion in a frequency range as high as several GHz and that there is no qualitative difference between NaCN, KCN, and RbCN.
