Cable-suspended planar parallel robots with redundant cables: controllers with positive cable tensions

2003 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.03CH37422), 2004
Cable-suspended robots are structurally similar to parallel actuated robots but with the fundamental difference that cables can only pull the end-effector but not push it. From a scientific point of view, this feature makes feedback control of cable-suspended robots lot more challenging than their counterpart parallel-actuated robots.

Safe Tension Control of Cable-Driven Rehabilitation Devices with Elastic Cables

2018 IEEE International Conference on Cyborg and Bionic Systems (CBS), 2018
Robotic rehabilitation devices based on cable-driven parallel manipulator (CDPM) have been proposed and developed by many researchers in the past decade. As rehabilitation devices are usually in direct contact with trainees, safety is paramount for rehabilitation devices.

Experimental Determination of Frequencies and Tension for Elastic Cables

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1998
The results of experiments for the natural frequencies and tension of a cable corresponding to a scale model of a guy wire for a 411 m (1,350 ft) tall radio navigation tower are compared to the theoretical predictions. For the theoretical determination of natural frequencies, alternate methods of using curvature are presented.

The high tension cable problem

1949 Conference on Electrical Insulation, 1949
The problem in high voltage cables is to contain voltages of the order of 100,000 to 500,000 volts by means of a suitable insulating medium around a conductor of diameter between l/2 in. and 2 in., the cable being of sufficient flexibility to permit being transported in long lengths on reels. An overall diameter of about 4 in.

A tension measurement method of a towing cable or a buoy cable

Ocean Engineering, 1993
Abstract An indirect tension measurement method of a towing cable in midwater or a buoy cable is proposed using underwater acoustic positioning systems, etc., to give the in-water cable tension. The most simple and traditional cable tension measurement method is to apply a mechanical tension meter at the one end of the cable, but the method has ...
