Coordinated Bank and Cache Coloring for Temporal Protection of Memory Accesses

open access: closed2013 IEEE 16th International Conference on Computational Science and Engineering, 2013
In commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) multi-core systems, the execution times of tasks become hard to predict because of contention on shared resources in the memory hierarchy. In particular, a task running in one processor core can delay the execution of another task running in another processor core. This is due to the fact that tasks can access data in

Page Coloring Synchronization for Improving Cache Performance in Virtualization Environment

open access: closed, 2011
The paging scheme randomly translates the virtual address into the physical address. Thus, it can lead to some serious problems like performance non-determinism and poor cache performance. In order to resolve these problems, page coloring is applied to operating systems such as Solaris, FreeBSD, and Windows.

A Swap-based Cache Set Index Scheme to Leverage both Superpage and Page Coloring Optimizations

open access: closedProceedings of the 51st Annual Design Automation Conference, 2014
We propose a novel cache set index scheme called SWAP (swap-based cache set index). SWAP introduces a pseudo-physical address space that is used by the operating system. The real physical address used for cache and main memory access is obtained by simply swapping some of superpage number bits with cache set index bits from the pseudo-physical address.

Limiting cache-based side-channel in multi-tenant cloud using dynamic page coloring

open access: closed2011 IEEE/IFIP 41st International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks Workshops (DSN-W), 2011
Multi-tenant cloud, which features utility-like computing resources to tenants in a “pay-as-you-go” style, has been commercially popular for years. As one of the sole purposes of such a cloud is maximizing resource usages to increase its revenue, it usually uses virtualization to consolidate VMs from different and even mutually-malicious tenants atop a

A Scalable Color-Based Caching Scheme in Telco-CDNs

2019 15th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM), 2019
Internet traffic is growing quickly, and it is majorly contributed by the proliferation of video services. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) reduce the video traffic by storing replicas of videos in their cache servers. Nonetheless, the cache servers are usually located outside Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

A Color-Based Cooperative Caching Strategy for Time-Shifted Live Video Streaming

2018 Sixth International Symposium on Computing and Networking Workshops (CANDARW), 2018
This paper proposes an efficient in-network caching strategy to reduce traffic volume for pseudo-live video streaming networks. Pseudo-live streaming is a technique that records video data as fragmented files in a cache server and reproduces them by continuously combining the fragments.

Real time color based particle filtering for object tracking with dual cache architecture

2011 8th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal Based Surveillance (AVSS), 2011
Particle filtering framework is widely used on tracking applications. In surveillance systems, it often combines with color information to achieve visual object tracking. However, the resource usage of this framework, including memory bandwidth and operation cycles, is very intensive to make a low cost real time object tracking unattainable.
