Dispersion characterisation of CaCO3 particles in PP/CaCO3 composites
Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2014Polypropylene and calcium carbonate were prepared by melt extrusion in a twin screw extruder or casting in a kneader extruder. The dispersion of CaCO3 particles in PP was analysed through the observation of impact-fracture surface, polished surface, cross-section surface and film using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB) and ...

Abstract The fluorescence of Mn2+ ion as impurity in CaCO3 has been investigated. Emission bands from the 4D(Eg), 4D(T2g) and 4G(T1g) levels have been observed. The analysis of excitation and emission spectra has allowed to obtain the values of field strength (Dq) for the excited energy levels of Mn2+ in CaCO3 lattice.

Microbiological precipitation of CaCO3
Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1999Abstract The process of microbial mineral plugging in porous media is common in nature. We examined physical and biochemical properties of CaCO3 precipitation induced by Bacillus pasteurii, an alkalophilic soil microorganism. X-ray diffraction analysis quantified the composition of the mineral deposited in sand and identified the CaCO3 crystal as ...

Abstract The wettability of calcium carbonate, an important parameter in the evaluation of the interaction characteristics of materials used in conservation, was examined by measurements with the Wilhelmy plate technique. Heterogeneous surfaces consisting of glass and calcium carbonate were examined.

Dissolution of CaCO3(1014) Surface
MRS Proceedings, 1994Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been used to study dissolution of the cleaved CaCO3(1014) surface in clean and impurity containing aqueous environments. In the clean solution, dissolution was found to occur by retreat of steps and creation of rhombohedral pits on a surface.

Abstract In all the waters where mollusks can grow, a variety of metal ions abounds. Attention has focused, however, on the effects of K+, Na+ and Mg2+ on the biomineralization of nacre, and those of other metal ions have been relatively neglected.

The poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as dispersant was used in CaCO 3 aqueous suspensions, where the PAA was adsorbed onto the surface of CaCO 3 particles. The adsorption reached equilibrium when adsorption time was 150 min. The adsorption capacity increased with increasing PAA content, and attained equilibration when PAA content was 0.9 % based on CaCO 3 ...

Abstract Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)-doped CaCO 3 microparticles with an average diameter of 5 μm were prepared and coated by chitosan and alginate multilayers. The prepared CaCO 3 microparticles had a dominant phase of vaterite and a spherical morphology with nanopores on their surface.
