A Reproducible and Scalable Process for High Yield Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Extracellular Vesicles Production

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell derived extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) are a promising therapeutic tool for regenerative medicine. However, the field lacks a reproducible high‐yield production method to answer the quantities needed for clinical translation.

Predation of the giant Miocene caiman Purussaurus on a mylodontid ground sloth in the wetlands of proto-Amazonia

open access: yesBiology Letters, 2020
Thirteen million years ago in South America, the Pebas Mega-Wetland System sheltered multi-taxon crocodylian assemblages, with the giant caiman Purussaurus as the top predator.

PET Imaging of Cardiac Inflammation in Viral Myocarditis Using a DPP4‐Targeted Probe

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study describes a DPP4‐targeted PET probe for imaging myocardial inflammation by selectively targeting activated immune cells. Derived from the clinically approved small‐molecule inhibitor linagliptin, the probe demonstrates favorable biodistribution with specific cardiac uptake in myocarditis.

Determination of Hematological Values of Common Crocodile (Caiman Crocodilus fuscus) in Captivity in the Magdalena medio of Colombia

open access: yesActa Biológica Colombiana, 2020
Caiman zoo breeding (Caiman crocodilus fuscus) has been developing with greater force in Colombia since the 90s. It is essential to evaluate the physiological ranges of the species to be able to assess those situations in which their health is threatened.

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

The relationship between nesting habitat and hatching success in Caiman latirostris (Crocodylia, Alligatoridae) [PDF]

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2006
The Broad-snouted Caiman uses different habitats for nesting; it has temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD) and nesting habitat selection by females could affect sex and other hatchlings characteristics.

Abundance and local range of broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris, Alligatoridae) in the northwest of Santa Catarina Island [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2008
This is the first report on the distribution and relative abundance of the broad-snouted caiman on Santa Catarina Island. The study estimated the relative abundance of caiman along the rivers at Estação Ecológica de Carijós, in addition to evaluating the
