Effect of gamma irradiation on the quality characteristics of frozen yacare caiman (Caiman crocodilus yacare) meat

Meat Science, 2022
This study investigated the effect of gamma irradiation (0, 3 and 5 kGy) on the quality characteristics of yacare caiman (Caiman crocodilus yacare) meat under typical storage and commercialization conditions (-18 °C for 150 days). The overall quality characteristics (texture profile, TBARS values, water-holding capacity and cooking loss) of the ...

A cybernetical strategy for optimal farming: on the growth of Caiman Crocodilus Yacare

open access: yesKybernetes, 1997
Presents an optimal strategy for managing crocodile farms. The strategy is illustrated with the case study of Caiman Crocodilus Yacare of the farm Coocrijapan. However, the strategy can be easily transferred to other farms, once sufficient data on their own crocodile stock is gathered.

A seasonally dependent change in the distribution and physiological condition of Caiman crocodilus yacare in the Paraguay River Basin

open access: yesWildlife Research, 2008
The distribution and physiological condition of 116 Caiman crocodilus yacare was assessed over one year in the Southern Pantanal. Body mass and intermediary plasma metabolites were measured at three different time periods, representing large differences in the abundance of surface water.

Size structure of illegally harvested and surviving caiman Caiman crocodilus yacare in Pantanal, Brazil

Biological Conservation, 1996
The Yacare caiman Caiman crocodilus yacare is protected by law in Brazil but is hunted illegally. Until now, few authorities have had access to data that might allow analysis of the effect of hunting. We used measurements from 2978 confiscated hides and 1358 skulls found in hunters' camps between October 1987 and September 1990 to reconstruct the sizes

Preliminary characterization of a Kazal-type serine protease inhibitor from Caiman crocodilus yacare plasma

open access: yesImmunopharmacology, 1999
Blood serine protease inhibitors are becoming better understood and increasingly applied in blood clotting, cancer and other diseases. Reptiles are suitable models for blood coagulation and related processes, moreover, caiman is a good comparative model of a non-poisonous reptile.

Relationships between rainfall, nesting habitat and fecundity ofCaiman crocodilus yacarein the Pantanal, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Ecology, 1995
ABSTRACTDifferences in rainfall between years influenced the proportions of different types of nesting habitats ofCaiman crocodilus yacareavailable near water bodies in a region of intermittent rivers (Campo Dora Ranch). In contrast, rainfall had little effect on the proximity of nesting habitat to water bodies in a region of isolated lakes (Nhumirim ...

Effect of Habitat on Survival of Eggs and Sex Ratio of Hatchlings of Caiman crocodilus yacare in the Pantanal, Brazil

Journal of Herpetology, 1993
Flooding of nests and predation were identified as the major mortality agents of eggs of Caiman crocodilus yacare in Brazil. Nests on floating grass mats and in forests were flooded in 1989, but only floating grass mats nests were flooded in 1990. Predation on eggs was high in forest nests, but my presence may have increased predation.

Sorption isotherms of alligator's meat (Caiman crocodilus yacare)

Journal of Food Engineering, 2002
Abstract Sorption isotherms were determined for salted alligator's meat at four different temperatures (10°C, 15°C, 25°C and 35°C), using a standard gravimetric method. The goodness of fit of five sorption models to experimental data was determined.
