Calcitonin, Etidronate, and Calcidiol Treatment in Bone Loss after Cardiac Transplantation
Calcified Tissue International, 1997Cardiac transplantation is associated with severe bone loss caused by glucocorticoids, immunosuppressive treatment, and other factors. Treatment protocols for the prevention of bone loss is being studied. Forty patients who underwent cardiac transplantation were randomly given calcitonin (n = 13; 100 UI/d, nasal route), etidronate (n = 14; cyclical ...

Bone loss after cardiac transplantation: Effects of calcium, calcidiol and monofluorophosphate
Osteoporosis International, 1993Of 203 patients who underwent cardiac transplantation and were given long-term treatment with cyclosporine and 0.3 mg/kg per day prednisone, 123 were studied prospectively for at least 6 months and 46 for up to 2 years to evaluate the effects on lumbar bone mineral density (BMD) and calcium metabolism of a combined therapy with calcium, calcidiol and ...

A system is described using high-performance liquid chromatography to separate and quantify, by spectrophotometry in a simple one-stage procedure, ercalcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D2) and calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3). The novel feature of the method is the employment of an ultraviolet-absorbing internal standard to monitor recovery.

The serum concentration of vitamin D will only give information about the recent exposure to either nutritional vitamin D or to recent vitamin D production in the skin. Within hours vitamin D is removed from the circulation and reappears again a few hours later as 25(OH)D. Measurements of vitamin D therefore are not useful to judge the vitamin D status

Interlaboratory Comparison of Calcidiol Determination
1990Vitamin D must be metabolized before it exerts biological effects. The first step, 25-hydroxylation, is believed to occur mainly in the liver [21]. Subsequently, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH-D) is further processed in the kidney to 1,25(OH)2D, the biologically most active vitamin D metabolite, or to 24,25(OH)2D [18, 22].

[Rational and results of weekly treatment with calcidiol in postmenopausal and senile osteoporosis].
Minerva medica, 2007Vitamin D plays a crucial role for the prevention and treatment of both postmenopausal and senile osteoporosis and possibly for a number of other conditions. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency remains extremely high among elderly subjects. This indicates that both the perception of the problem and the interventions so far implemented remain ...

Optimal serum calcidiol concentration for cancer prevention.
Anticancer research, 2012It has been demonstrated in several studies that serum calcidiol (25 OH vitamin D(3)) concentration is in a reversed and linear relationship with cancer risk. However, there are also studies showing no such association and some even suggest the opposite. The risk of pancreatic and oesophageal cancer seems to increase, when serum calcidiol concentration

Parathyroid hormone, calcidiol, calcitriol and adverse events in the acute coronary syndrome
Medicina Intensiva (English Edition), 2018To know the clinical profile as well as the prognostic significance of elevated levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome (ACS).Observational and prospective study of patients admitted for ACS in a single Spanish center during a period of six months. The circulating concentrations of PTH, calcidiol, calcitriol,

[Why and how correct calcidiol deficiency in haemodialysis patients?].
Nephrologie & therapeutique, 2010The plasma concentration of 25(OH) D - calcidiol - is low in most of stage 5 renal patients. Due to the lack of renal 1alpha-hydroxylase, no supplementation is recommended. However, calcidiol also displays many extraosseous beneficial antiproliferative effects. It may be useful to correct its deficiency in dialysis patients.
