Calcifediol During Pregnancy Improves Maternal and Fetal Availability of Vitamin D Compared to Vitamin D3 in Rats and Modifies Fetal Metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
The fetus depends on the transplacental transfer of vitamin D. Calcifediol (25-OH-D3) is the vitamin D metabolite that crosses the placenta. Previously, oral 25-OH-D3 improved serum 25-OH-D3 compared to vitamin D3 in non-pregnant subjects, although no ...

Vitamin D status and bone mineral density in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesZdorovʹe Rebenka, 2019
Background. Monitoring bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) with additional assessment of calcidiol (25(OH)D) serum level is an indicator of catabolism status and a criterion of successful therapy. Our objective

Low Calcidiol Levels and Coronary Artery Calcification [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2009
There is increasing interest in the role of vitamin D in health and disease. From early articles showing associations between use of activated vitamin D and improved survival on dialysis1 to more recent analyses showing that low 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcidiol) and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol) levels are associated with mortality in dialysis ...

Asthma families show transmission disequilibrium of gene variants in the vitamin D metabolism and signalling pathway

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2006
The vitamin D prophylaxis of rickets in pregnant women and newborns may play a role in early allergic sensitization. We now asked if an already diseased population may have inherited genetic variants in the vitamin D turnover or signalling pathway. Serum

Chemotherapeutic Effect of Calcidiol Derivative B3CD in a Neuroblastoma Xenograft Model [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Biology & Drug Design, 2010
Bromoacetoxy‐calcidiol (B3CD), a pro‐apoptotic and cytotoxic agent in neuroblastoma (NB) cell lines, displayed therapeutic potential in vivo as an anticancer drug in a NB xenograft mouse model. Tumors of all animals treated intraperitoneally with B3CD went into regression within 10–30 days of treatment, while tumors in control animals grew aggressively.
