The microstructure of calcined ivories

Materials Research Bulletin, 1980
Abstract The calcination of elephant tusk ivory in air, followed by scanning electron microscopy and N 2 sorption, occurs in 3 stages. First, the organics pyrolized to a char, the surface area increaing 1000-fold(149–427°C). Then the char decomposed and oxidized, leaving the ivory matrix largely intact but porous(427–649°C).

Photoacoustic Characterization of Calcinated and Non-Calcinated Zeolitic Chromosilicate

1992
In this paper we confirm, using the photoacoustic spectroscopy, that the incorporation of oxygen to crytalline zeolitic chromosilicates promotes the oxidation of anchored Cr(III) to non — interacting Cr(VI) species. The thermal diffusivity, the non — radiative relaxation time and the optical absorption coefficients of both calcinated and non ...

Analysis of Material Balance Based on the Calcination Performance of a Chamber Calciner

2018
The chamber calciners have been dominant in the calcination of green cokes in recent years in China. The accuracy of the material balance of a chamber calciner is very important for analysis of the thermal balance, selection of the waste heat boiler and selection of the flue gas desulfurization equipment.

Alumina Calcination in the Fluid-Flash Calciner

2016
In the mid 40’s, Alcoa turned to fluidized solids techniques as a means of improving the efficiency of the alumina calcining process. This paper traces calciner development from the first pilot operation in 1946 through the first plant fluid-bed unit in 1952, the early “fluid-flash” calciner designs in 1960, the first 300 ton/day fluid-flash calciner ...

Concretes with Calcined Clay and Calcined Shale: Workability, Mechanical, and Transport Properties

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2020
AbstractThis paper analyzed the eco-efficiency of concretes (water/cement ratio = 0.50; cement content=350  kg/m3, and slump = 7 cm) with blended cement containing 25% by weight calcined pozzolan o...

Performance of a fluidized bed calciner for the calcination of metal nitrate wastes

Nuclear and Chemical Waste Management, 1986
Abstract The performance of a Fluidized Bed Calciner (FBC) has been evaluated for the calcination of simulated fission-product wastes and thorium nitrate solutions. A systematic parametric study using the statistical methodology of fractional factorial design was successfully employed to delineate the more important operating variables.

Cyclone Calcination Furnace

Refractories and Industrial Ceramics, 2015
Russia’s first cyclone calcination furnace, with a capacity of 500 tons/day, was built and placed in operation at the Ural Aluminum Plant of the Siberia-Ural Aluminum Company (in Kamensk-Ural’skii). The cyclone furnace took the place of rotary furnace No. 6 in March 2004.

Effect of calcination on sintering of hydroxyapatite

Biomaterials, 1996
Four different temperatures (700-1000 degrees C) were chosen for calcination treatment of as-received hydroxyapatite powder before press forming and sintering to study the effect of calcination on the sintering behaviours. The results show that calcination treatment increases the average particle size and distribution, which changes from trimodal to ...

Simulation of coke calciners

Carbon, 1974
Abstract A mathematical rotary calciner simulator is developed based on theoretical considerations and experimental data. It simulates the available petroleum coke calciner test run data satisfactorily. The most important datum, calcined coke yield, is simulated with maximum ± 0·7% error.

A comparison of the kinetics of flash calcination of kaolinite in different calciners

1994
We have determined reaction rates and activation energies for the dehydroxylation of kaolinite by flash calcination using two laboratory and two industrial pilot flash calciners under various conditions. The kinetics of dehydroxylation/water loss can be fitted to a 3-dimensional diffusion model, but changes in mechanism occur at high dehydroxylation ...
