Stability of calcined clays during storage
ce/papers, 2023AbstractUsage of calcined clay as a cement main constituent is spotlighted as an important part of the decarbonisation of the cement industry. In particular, little knowledge is available on the storage stability of calcined clays. Therefore, the influences of fineness, temperature and humidity for different timescales of storing were determined.

Calcined clay limestone cements (LC3)
Cement and Concrete Research, 2018Abstract The use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) to replace part of the clinker in cement is the most successful strategy to reduce CO2 emissions in the global cement industry. However, limited supplies of conventional SCMs make it difficult to take this strategy further unless new types of SCMs become available.

Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3)

Thermal Processing of Calcined Clay
2017Various clayey materials containing different clay minerals were calcined using muffle furnace and pilot scale flash calciner. While pure clay minerals can be easily calcined using soak calcination, mixed systems, especially Ca/Mg-rich materials, benefit from flash calcination.

Pozzolanic reactivity of pure calcined clays
Applied Clay Science, 2016Abstract Eight reference clay samples, 4 kaolinitic, 3 smectitic and 1 illitic clay, were purified and thermally treated in order to determine their pozzolanic reactivity in cementitious materials. The clays were calcined in a fixed-bed electrical furnace at temperatures ranging between 500 °C and 900 °C.

Pozzolanic activity of calcined moler clay
Cement and Concrete Research, 1990Abstract In order to investigate the possibility of using an industrial by-product of calcined Moler from the production of Moler bricks as a pozzolan in cement and concrete, a number of tests were carried out to establish the pozzolanic properties.

Pozzolanicity of Calcined Clay
2015Out of the three major clay mineral groups, viz, kaolin, smectite and palygorskite – attapulgite, the cement science primarily focuses on the first group to be used on calcination as a pozzolanic admixture. The general understanding is that the dehydroxylation of dehydrated kaolinite in the temperature range of 550 – 650 °C apparently yields an x-ray ...

In this study, the influence of the calcined kaolinite content of calcined clay on the hydration of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3-50) is investigated. It is shown that with the increase of the calcined kaolinite content of the calcined clay, the clinker hydration degree decreases.

In this study, the compositional robustness of limestone-calcined clay combination as clinker replacement in cement, and its effect on concrete performance was assessed in detail. The ratio of limestone-calcined clay in the LC3 with 55% clinker was varied from 1:1.25, 1:2 and 1:3.5 with increasing limestone dosage from 10 to 20%.
