Spectral Tuning of Hyperbolic Shear Polaritons in Monoclinic Gallium Oxide via Isotopic Substitution

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Spectral tuning of highly directional hyperbolic shear polaritons is realized via isotopic substitution of 16O to 18O in monoclinic β$\beta$‐phase gallium oxide. A red‐shift of almost 40 cm−1 is experimentally demonstrated with near‐field imaging, corroborated by the permittivity change extracted from far‐field experiments and density functional theory.

Amphibalanus amphitrite begins exoskeleton mineralization within 48 hours of metamorphosis

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2020
Barnacles are ancient arthropods that, as adults, are surrounded by a hard, mineralized, outer shell that the organism produces for protection. While extensive research has been conducted on the glue-like cement that barnacles use to adhere to surfaces ...

Rheo-acoustic gels: Tuning mechanical and flow properties of colloidal gels with ultrasonic vibrations

open access: yes, 2020
Colloidal gels, where nanoscale particles aggregate into an elastic yet fragile network, are at the heart of materials that combine specific optical, electrical and mechanical properties. Tailoring the viscoelastic features of colloidal gels in real-time

Physical Origin of Temperature Induced Activation Energy Switching in Electrically Conductive Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The temperature‐induced Arrhenius activation energy switching phenomenon of electrical conduction in electrically conductive cement originates from structural degradation within the biphasic ionic‐electronic conduction architecture and shows percolation‐governed characteristics: pore network opening dominates the low‐percolation regime with downward ...
