Exploring Relationships Within the Microbiome of Root Canal Infections and the Influence of Associated Clinical Parameters

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To identify relationships among bacterial species in endodontic infections, to determine their core microbiome, and associated clinical characteristics. Methodology 206 patients with endodontic infections and apical periodontitis were assessed for clinical parameters (periapical lesion, symptomatology, sinus tract). Samples from the apical

Combustion synthesis of ultra‐high temperature ceramics: Review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Novel and future‐oriented aerospace, energy, transportation, and other industrial technologies require materials capable of operating at temperatures above 2000°C. Ultra‐high temperature ceramic materials (UHTCs), based on carbides, borides, carbonitrides, and nitrides of transition metals—many with melting points exceeding 3000°C—possess the ...

Bio‐inspired damage‐tolerant alumina‐based layered ceramics through rapid sintering

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Strategy to enhance damage tolerance in alumina‐based ceramics through a layered architecture with tailored microstructure using rapid sintering. Abstract Layered ceramics have proved effective under contact damage or thermal shock, associated with the effect of compressive residual stresses and/or textured microstructure against surface crack ...

From polymer to SiOC glass: structure, microstructure, mechanical, and thermal properties

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Abstract The transformation of a methyl‐siloxane into a SiOC glass in Ar and reactive CO2 atmosphere was studied through positron annihilation spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, density, and calorimetric measurements, whereas the mechanical properties were monitored by nanoindentation and the thermal diffusivity measured by the laser flash method ...

Sustainable structural materials inspired by nature

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Abstract A society's wealth relies on three pillars: human capital, nature, and the economy. Sustainable materials development must uphold all three. For load‐bearing materials, mechanical properties, namely, stiffness, strength, and toughness are crucial for human needs, while energy, water usage, and CO2 emissions reflect their ecological footprint ...

Predicting air‐entraining in cement paste from the molecular attributes of nonionic surfactants with a multilayer method

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Abstract The novelty of this study is to present a multilayer framework for predicting the air‐entrained porosity of cement paste based on the molecular characteristics of nonionic surfactants. Air‐entraining agents enhance concrete durability against freeze–thaw damage; however, their development is labor‐intensive and cost‐prohibitive.
