Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Study on the Relationships Between Calcium Accumulation in Fruits and Calcium Dynamics in Fruit Stalks During the Development and Ripening of Cerasus humilis Fruit

open access: yesPlants
Cerasus humilis is a unique fruit tree renowned for its exceptional calcium content. To investigate the relationship between calcium absorption and accumulation in the fruit, as well as the dynamic changes in calcium within the fruit stalks during ...

Effects of calcium on drinking fluorosis-induced hippocampal synaptic plasticity impairment in the offspring of rats

open access: yesTranslational Neuroscience, 2017
This study investigated the effects of calcium on fluorosis-induced impairment in learning and memory of offspring rats. Methods Seventy-five newly weaned female Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into five groups as follows: Control group ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The effect of experimental hyperoxia on erythrocytes’ oxygen-transport function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hyperoxia, calcium ions and pH value on the composition of major phospholipids in human erythrocyte membranes and erythrocytes’ oxygen-transport function. To create a model of hyperoxia, we saturated

Calcium in the Intestinal Contents of Rats on Different Calcium Diets

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1969
SummaryFree and bound calcium were determined on intestinal contents of rats maintained on minimal and tolerable calcium diets. The concentration of free calcium was less than the serum value for all intestinal segments and for rats on both diets. The amount of bound calcium was greater when calcium was added to the diet and was greatest in the ileal ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
