The influence of Sr content in calcium phosphate coatings

Materials Science and Engineering C, 2015
In this study calcium phosphate coatings with different amounts of strontium (Sr) were prepared using a biomineralization method. The incorporation of Sr changed the composition and morphology of coatings from plate-like to sphere-like morphology.

Mechanical insertion properties of calcium‐phosphate implant coatings

open access: yesClinical Oral Implants Research, 2010
AbstractObjectives: To investigate the influence of protein incorporation on the resistance of biomimetic calcium‐phosphate coatings to the shear forces that are generated during implant insertion.Materials and Methods: Thirty‐eight standard (5 × 13 mm) Osseotite® implants were coated biomimetically with a layer of calcium phosphate, which either ...

Dissolution Kinetics of Calcium Phosphate Coatings

Implant Dentistry, 1998
Plasma spray and high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) techniques produce coatings with varying composition and amounts of amorphous and crystalline phases. For coatings containing greater amorphous phases, a higher release of calcium ions is evident when samples are placed in Hank's calcium-free balanced salt solutions.

Calcium phosphate coatings for medical implants

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine, 1998
In surgical disciplines where bone has to be repaired, augmented or improved, bone substitutes are essential. Although bone banks, such as Eurotransplant, are founded to supply such substitutes, natural bone is not always adequate. For example, frequently these so-called bone grafts resorb after implantation (1).

Biomimetic processing of calcium phosphate coating

Medical Engineering & Physics, 1998
Most ceramics used in surgical implantation are better tolerated by the body environment than other biomaterials, particularly metals. However, the broader application of ceramics is limited because they are brittle and prone to catastrophic failure. By contrast.

Amorphous Calcium Phosphate Coatings

2022
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) is unique among calcium phosphates because it lacks the long-range, periodic atomic-scale order observed in crystalline calcium phosphates. In addition, ACP exhibits a high dissolution rate in vitro and in vivo. In this chapter, the fabrication processes of ACP coating films, based on wet and dry processes, are ...

Remineralization of demineralized albumin‐calcium phosphate coatings

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2003
AbstractCalcium phosphate and bovine serum albumin were coprecipitated (under physiological conditions of temperature and pH) upon the surfaces of titanium‐alloy samples, which thereby became coated with a dense, proteinaceous mineral layer 30–50 μm in thickness.

Electrodeposition of Calcium Phosphate Coatings in Polyvinyl Alcohol

Inorganic Materials: Applied Research, 2022
Brushite coatings were obtained on titanium by the method of electrochemical deposition from Ca(NO3)2/NH4H2PO4 electrolyte at Ca/P = 1.67, pH = 4 and a constant voltage of 15 V or a current density of 20 mA/cm2 for 20 min. In a medium of 0.01 – 0.10 % polyvinyl alcohol at a constant voltage of 15 V, are deposited single-phase brushite or monetite ...

Electrolytic deposition of lithium into calcium phosphate coatings

Dental Materials, 2009
Lithium ions stimulate the Wnt signaling pathway and the authors previously demonstrated that lithium enhances the proliferation of tissue cultured human mesenchymal stem cells. The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize a calcium phosphate/lithium coating by means of electrolytic deposition.

Studies on calcium phosphate coatings

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2000
Hydroxyapatite, one form of calcium phosphate, is preferred for its ability to interact with living bone, resulting in improvements of implant fixation and faster bone healing. The interlayer of nitrides or oxides formed by DC magnetron sputtering improved the bonding strength of plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite coating to a maximum of 10 times for ...
