Synthetic Calcium Silicate Hydrates

open access: yes, 2017
Since the introduction of cementitious materials over 200 years ago, its use has multiplied many fold to be currently at 3 billion tonnes per year, accounting for about 8% of worldwide carbon emission which is forecast to double within the next 30 years. Upon hydration of cementitious materials, the principle product formed is Calcium Silicate Hydrate (

Assessing Angiogenic Properties In Vitro or In Ovo of Pre‐Crosslinked Alginate‐Dialdehyde‐Gelatin Hydrogels Incorporating Boron‐Doped Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Particles

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This study examines the influence of boron‐doped mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGN) blended in cast and 3D‐printed pre‐crosslinked alginate‐dialdehyde‐gelatin (ADA‐GEL). Addition of 0.5% and 1% MBGN did not negatively affect the viability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), or the sprouting of HUVEC spheroids.

Research on the Detoxification of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Fly Ash: Organic Acid Washing Pretreatment Coupled With Cement/DDTC Stabilization

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Heavy metals in municipal waste incineration fly ash are potentially harmful to the ecological environment and human health. To mitigate the hazards of fly ash, this study attempts to detoxify fly ash through organic acid washing pretreatment coupled with cement/sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) solidification.

Interaction of calcium lignosulfonate with tricalcium silicate, hydrated tricalcium silicate, and calcium hydroxide

open access: yesCement and Concrete Research, 1972
Abstract Tricalcium silicate, bottle-hydrated tricalcium silicate and calcium hydroxide were each treated with 0.015–1.0% calcium lignosulfonate (CLS) using water or dimethyl sulfoxide. At low CLS concentrations C 3 S hydrates and irreversibly adsorbs CLS. At concentrations beyond about 0.25–0.35% the hydration of C 3 S is inhibited.

Physicochemical Properties of Fly Ash From Waste Incineration Power Plants and Study of Slaking Mechanism

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With the acceleration of urbanization, the treatment of municipal solid waste (MSW) has become one of the global challenges. The waste incineration process will produce fly ash containing a large amount of heavy metals and organic matter.
