Effect of SiO2 and Al2O3 on the Thermophysical Properties and the Foaming Index of Electric Arc Furnace Slag from the Production of Construction Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
. Future steelmaking slags are expected to change due to the implementation of direct reduced iron, affecting slag properties and the associated processes. This study examines how SiO2 and Al2O3 impact the viscosity, density, and surface tension of electric arc furnace slag in construction steel production and analyzes their influence on the foaming ...

Interactions between 3Al2O3·2SiO2, CA2, CA6, and Molten Slags

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The interaction between the oxide substrates (mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2), calcium aluminates CA2 and CA6), and the molten slags with various basicities (1.0, 0.9, and 0.8) and MgO (5 and 10 wt%) is investigated. The contact angle of the molten slag is regulated by the chemical composition of the slag, the newly formed reaction product between and the ...

Thermodynamic Constraints and Prospects for Intensified Steel Deoxidation

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The article provides a short survey of steel deoxidation and considers how to increase its efficacy. Bringing a specially tailored, powdered slag into the reaction site can directly bind the deoxidation product oxides, resulting in lower dissolved oxygen activity, total oxygen content, and cleaner steel.

Observation on Reaction Mechanism of Lime Powder as Desulfurization Agent for Molten Cast Iron

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The reaction layer between lime particles and molten cast iron is comprehensively analyzed as one of the key factors in sustaining the lime‐based desulfurization process. The findings indicate the involvement of silicon, aluminum, iron, oxygen, and sulfur in a complex interplay forming specific slag systems and precipitations regulated by their ...
