On computations of angular momentum and its flux in numerical relativity

open access: yes, 2008
The purpose of this note is to point out ambiguities that appear in the calculation of angular momentum and its radiated counterpart when some simple formulae are used to compute them.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

DETERMINATION OF PARASITE DRAG FOR COMMERCIAL AIRPLANE AT TRANSONIC SPEEDS

open access: yesНаучный вестник МГТУ ГА, 2017
It considers the task of determination of parasite drag for subsonic commercial airplane on the base of theoretical calculation procedures. It contains the procedure for clarification of empirical approach to calculation of parasite drag at high speeds ...

Discontinuity of Lyapunov Exponents Near Fiber Bunched Cocycles

open access: yes, 2016
We give examples of locally constant $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$-cocycles over a Bernoulli shift which are discontinuity points for Lyapunov exponents in the H\"older topology and are arbitrarily close to satisfying the fiber bunching inequality.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

AtomSim: web-deployed atomistic dynamics simulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
AtomSim, a collection of interfaces for computational crystallography simulations, has been developed. It uses forcefield-based dynamics through physics engines such as the General Utility Lattice Program, and can be integrated into larger computational ...
