Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

MicroRNA‐microbiota interactions: Emerging strategies for modulating intestinal homeostasis and enhancing host health

open access: yesiMetaOmics
Long‐term artificial selection and environmental shifts have driven adaptive changes in both the host genome and the intestinal microbiota. The complex symbiotic relationship between these two has become essential for maintaining intestinal homeostasis ...

Disorders of acid-base balance promote rumen lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis in dairy cows by modulating the microbiome

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
IntroductionDisorders of acid-base balance in the rumen of dairy cows have a significant impact on their health and performance. However, the effect of transient differences in pH on susceptibility to subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) and ...

Early Clinical, Imaging, and Pathological Characteristics of SRPK3/TTN‐Digenic Myopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy was recently established as a skeletal muscle myopathy caused by digenic inheritance. This study characterizes the early clinical presentation of SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy in one previously reported and seven newly identified pediatric patients.

Invited review: An evaluation of EFSA opinion on calf welfare from a nutritional and management perspective

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: In March 2023, the European Food Safety Authority published a Scientific Opinion on Calf Welfare. This opinion was prepared in response to a request from the European Commission to provide an independent view on the welfare of calves that reflected the

Sertraline Treatment Can Mimic Niemann‐Pick Type C Biomarker Profile: A Diagnostic Pitfall

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oxysterols (cholestane‐3β,5α,6β‐triol and 7‐ketocholesterol) and N‐palmitoyl‐O‐phosphocholineserine (PPCS) are sensitive biomarkers for Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC) screening. However, false‐positive results occur, with a biomarker profile suggestive of NPC despite the absence of pathogenic variants in genes involved in NPC or ...

How neonatal diet affects the long-term development of rumination behavior, rumen fermentation and feed digestion in dairy calves fed a high milk level?

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition
This study was to investigate growth performance, rumination development, rumen fermentation and feed digestion in young calves provided high volumes (about 20% of calf birth weight) of milk with or without forage inclusion and how these parameters ...

Deep convolutional neural networks for the detection of diarrhea and respiratory disease in preweaning dairy calves using data from automated milk feeders

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2022
: The objective of the current study was to develop a predictive model for calf disease detection in the preweaning period using data from automated milk feeders (AMF).

Innervation of Calf Muscles in Relation to Calf Reduction

open access: yesAnnals of Plastic Surgery, 2003
Plump and muscular calves, a so-called radish-like leg, embarrass young women and cause a feeling of inferiority in Korea. Damage to motor nerves innervating a muscle makes the muscle paralyzed and dystrophic, with loss of muscle volume. The authors studied the morphometry of the motor branches of the tibial nerve innervating the gastrocnemius and ...
