Control of Gemcitabine Activity With Blue and Red Light

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Treating cancer with chemotherapy is generally associated with many side effects, which can be addressed by selectively releasing the desired drugs with visible light. Sixteen new blue light‐activatable cytostatics were introduced, with the gemcitabine derivative exhibiting ideal properties.

Extended batch adsorber analogue model (e‐BAAM) for rapid evaluation of CO2 capture pressure swing adsorption cycles

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This work presents a simplified extended‐batch adsorber analogue model (e‐BAAM) to quantify key performance metrics such as purity, recovery, and energy trends for various pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process cycles for CO2$$ {\mathrm{CO}}_2 $$ capture.

Diagnosis of bacteraemia in neonatal foals using 16S rRNA high‐throughput sequencing

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in foals. Early diagnosis can improve outcome but is complicated by non‐specific clinical signs and delayed confirmation of infection via blood culture. Molecular assays represent a rapid and more sensitive alternative.

Modeling the impacts of grazing management on livestock behavior and performance: A case study in the Peruvian Andes

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Our modeling study shows that livestock management strongly influences grazing behavior and animal performance in the Peruvian Andes. Furthermore, adjusting stocking rates and improving animal distribution can enhance forage intake and body condition while increasing forage biomass.

Some Nutritional and Physiological Aspects of Calf Rearing

open access: yes, 1959
A great deal of research work is now being done in the hope of finding better or cheaper methods of calf rearing, and this paper briefly reviews some of the results that have been obtained in studies of the fundamental problems involved. It is concerned

Toll‐Like Receptors in the Mechanism of Hexabromocyclododecane‐Induced Production of Pro‐Inflammatory Cytokines

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), a brominated flame retardant, has raised increasing health concerns due to its bioaccumulation in human tissues and its ability to induce proinflammatory cytokines. Interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β), interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), and tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α) are major mediators of inflammation, and their chronic elevation ...

A survey of calf rearing practices on California dairies

open access: yes, 2014
The goal of this project was to document calf rearing and management practices prevalent on California dairies and calf ranches as part of a larger effort to develop a risk assessment tool to reduce the incidence of Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD ...

High‐Content Screening Comparison of 1R6F Cigarette Smoke Extract and Selected Heated Tobacco and Electronic Vapour Product Aerosol Extracts in Endothelial and Bronchial Epithelial Cell Models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cigarettes induce oxidative stress and DNA damage, processes that contribute to cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. High content screening (HCS) is an increasingly valuable tool for comparative toxicology because it enables simultaneous quantification of multiple mechanistic endpoints at single‐cell resolution. In this study, HCS was used to
