Multiple cardiac malformations in a calf

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
This paper describes the morphopathological aspects of a case of multiple cardiac malformations in a calf. A two‐day‐old male calf of undefined breed was born with an ectopic heart, presenting with dyspnoea and in lateral recumbency. The owner had repositioned the exposed heart beneath the adjacent skin, which was suclosed, without additional incisions

Brain metastasis‐associated fibroblasts shape the tumour microenvironment to enhance cancer cell invasion

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Brain metastasis‐associated fibroblasts are active stromal components of the metastatic niche characterised by extracellular matrix remodelling and production of pro‐migratory mediators. They promote monocyte and cancer cell migration and enhance cancer cell invasion while having no growth‐promoting effect on cancer cells.

Selective excitatory effects of γ‐glutamyl‐glycine, a glutathione metabolite, on GluN1 NMDA and mGlu5 receptors impacting synaptic plasticity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Gamma‐glutamyl dipeptides are essentially produced after glutathione (GSH) degradation. While several γ‐glutamyl dipeptides have been detected in different organs and body fluids, their biological activity remains elusive. This is the case for γ‐Glutamyl‐Glycine (γ‐Glu‐Gly) which has been found in different brain areas.

Psychological Stress Promotes Tumor Growth in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Models Through Myeloid Signaling

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Psychological stress promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression through coordinated regulation of macrophages and neutrophils. Noradrenaline activates ADRB2 signaling in intratumoral macrophages, leading to CXCL2 production and neutrophil recruitment.

VEGF‐A Antisense Oligonucleotide Therapy Inhibits Corneal Neovascularisation and Enhances Graft Survival in Murine High‐Risk Corneal Transplantation

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To investigate, for the first time, whether an unconjugated VEGF‐A antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) can inhibit corneal neovascularisation and improve graft survival in a murine high‐risk corneal transplantation model. Methods A suture‐induced corneal neovascularisation model was established in BALB/c mice, followed by high‐risk ...

Tolerance for jaguars among ranching communities in the Colombian Llanos

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Livestock protection measures are often implemented with the desired outcome of reducing retaliatory killings. We studied drivers of retaliatory killings in four communities in the Colombian Llanos and evaluated whether an electric fencing intervention would improve tolerance for jaguars.
