Modernization of calf rearing technology elements in cattle breeding [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
The purpose of the research is to establish the timing of technological operations when feeding hay into feeders of different designs and the growth characteristics of calves with different growing technologies during the dairy period.

An Aggregation‐Induced Polymerization Poly(Disulfide)‐Drug Nanoplatform for Autoimmune Uveitis Therapy via Inhibiting the cGAS‐STING Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cationic poly(disulfide)‐drug nanoplatform (LA/DexP) was developed to treat experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU). With potent blood‐retinal barrier penetrability, LA/DexP releases DSP in response to high ROS and scavenges cfDNA to inhibit the cGAS‐STING signaling pathway.

Deltacoronavirus Modulates circRNA cGLIS3 Metabolism to Evade Host Antiviral Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that both deltacoronavirus nucleocapsid protein and host RNA binding protein IGF2BP2 promote circular RNA GLIS3 (cGLIS3) biogenesis by binding to GLIS3 pre‐mRNA. The m6A modification‐mediated cGLIS3‐IGF2BP2 interaction weakens RNase L‐mediated degradation of cGLIS3 while facilitates a ubiquitin‐dependent degradation of IGF2BP2, thus ...

Genetic parameters of colostrum and calf serum antibodies in Swedish dairy cattle

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2022
Background A sufficient IgG content in the colostrum is essential for the newborn calf, as it provides passive immunity which substantially affects the probability of survival during rearing.

A perspective on the evaluation of dairy calf rearing operations

open access: yes, 2020
The basis for evaluation of calf rearing operations is to determine the role of the operational activities in affecting calf growth and development. The evaluation process should include the following; understanding and establishment of expectations for ...

The Natural Product Corramycin Acts as a DNA Gyrase Poison and Overcomes Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corramycin, a myxobacterial natural product antibiotic, exhibits potent bactericidal activity against multidrug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The compound hijacks bacterial transporters such as BacA and OppABCD to enter the cell and inhibits DNA synthesis through a previously unrecognized mode of DNA gyrase poisoning, locking the enzyme in an ...

Cost estimation for rearing dairy young stock in Sabah, Malaysia: a stochastic model accounting for calf mortality uncertainty [PDF]

open access: yes
The rearing of young stock in tropical countries is considered a substantial investment for dairy farmers due to non-productivity and the higher risk of mortality in the first 2 to 3 years of youngstock life.

Carbohydrate‐Mediated Cellular Uptake of Boronic Acid Hybrids In Cellulo and Insulin‐Deficient Zebrafish: Live Imaging and Application of Multiphoton FLIM

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Boronic acid‐based fluorescent hybrids have been used as part of a versatile platform for real‐time metabolic bioimaging across cellular and organismal scales. Including glucose‐responsive imaging in living cells and in an insulin‐deficient vertebrate model, this work opens new opportunities for the development of precision diagnostics, metabolic ...

Empirical assessment of feeding and husbandry challenges between early-separation and cow-calf contact rearing systems in southern Germany

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: The interest in rearing dairy calves within cow-calf contact (CCC) systems, allowing full (all calves) and partial (some calves) contact, is increasing, driven by growing societal criticism of the early separation of cow and calf after birth.

A cross-sectional study of suckling calves’ passive immunity and associations with management routines to ensure colostrum intake on organic dairy farms

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2019
Background For suckling dairy calves, different management routines to ensure sufficient colostrum intake are applied: visual assessment, hand feeding supplemental colostrum or assistance.
