Utilizing Molecular Epidemiology and Citizen Science for the Surveillance of Lagoviruses in Australia

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Australia has multiple lagoviruses with differing pathogenicity. The circulation of these viruses was traditionally determined through opportunistic sampling events. In the lead up to the nationwide release of RHDVa-K5 (GI.1aP-GI.1a) in 2017, an existing

Sapovirus translation requires an interaction between VPg and the cap binding protein eIF4E. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
UNLABELLED: Sapoviruses of the Caliciviridae family of small RNA viruses are emerging pathogens that cause gastroenteritis in humans and animals. Molecular studies on human sapovirus have been hampered due to the lack of a cell culture system.

The Coxsackievirus and Adenovirus Receptor, a Required Host Factor for Recovirus Infection, Is a Putative Enteric Calicivirus Receptor

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2019
Because of the lack of a simple and robust human norovirus (HuNoV) cell culture system surrogate, caliciviruses still represent valuable research tools for norovirus research.

DDX3 Regulates the Cap‐Independent Translation of the Japanese Encephalitis Virus via Its Interactions with PABP1 and the Untranslated Regions of the Viral Genome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 27, July 17, 2025.
Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) employs a cap‐independent (CI) translation strategy to evade host translational shutoff. During the shut‐off of host cellular canonical translation, DEAD‐box protein 3 (DDX3) bind to JEV UTRs to establish a closed‐loop architecture, and its interaction with poly(A)‐binding protein 1 (PABP1) to form DDX3/PABP1/eIF4G ...
