Effect of temperature on development rate and egg production in Caligus elongatus and other sea louse species [PDF]

open access: yesAquaculture Environment Interactions
The sea louse Caligus elongatus (Siphonostomatoida, Caligidae) is a generalist ectoparasite commonly found on farmed salmonids in the Atlantic Ocean. Together with the salmon louse Lepeophtheirus salmonis and the Chilean sea louse Caligus rogercresseyi ...

Caligus elongatus and other sea lice of the genus Caligus as parasites of farmed salmonids: A review [PDF]

open access: yesAquaculture, 2020
Abstract This review was prompted by reports of unusually large numbers of sea lice tentatively identified as Caligus elongatus infesting farmed salmon in northern Norway. Following a brief introduction to the sea lice problem in salmonid aquaculture, the review is divided into a further eight sections.

Caligus elongatus as parasites of farmed salmonids in Ireland [PDF]

open access: yesContributions to Zoology, 2000
Infestation patterns of Caligus elongatus on farmed Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout were investigated at several sites along the west coast of Ireland. Parasite abundances were examined in relation to host species, farm location and season. Differences were found in the relative prevalence of infestation between salmon and rainbow trout.

Mining Lepeophtheirus salmonis RNA-Seq data for qPCR reference genes and their application in Caligus elongatus [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental Parasitology, 2023
Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus elongatus are two parasitic copepod species posing a significant threat to salmonid aquaculture. Consequently, several gene expression studies are executed each year to gain new knowledge and treatment strategies. Though, to enable accurate gene expression measurements by quantitative real time PCR, stable reference ...

Fate of Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus elongatus During Farmed Salmon Crowding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021

Abundance and distribution of planktonic Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus elongatus in a fish farming region in the Faroe Islands [PDF]

open access: yesAquaculture Environment Interactions, 2015
The abundance of planktonic sea lice in the surface waters of the strait of Sundalagið, Faroe Islands was investigated from November 2013 to June 2014. The strait is 38 km long and hosts 6 salmon farms with coordinated farming cycles.

Infection of wild fishes by the parasitic copepod Caligus elongatus on the south east coast of Norway [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2007
Natural Caligus elongatus Nordmann infections of wild coastal fishes on the Norwegian south east coast were monitored at various times of the year from 2002 to 2004. The prevalence for all coastal fish (n = 4427) pooled was 15%, and there were great differences between fish species and seasons. Lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus L.

Validity of the Binomen Caligus elongatus for a Common Parasitic Copepod Formerly Misidentified with Caligus rapax

open access: yesJournal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1969
The parasitic copepod Caligus elongatus Nordmann, 1832, is redescribed from the syntypes, and virtually all of the "C. rapax" of Baird, 1850, and later authors is identified with it. A review of hosts and localities reveals that this species parasitizes representatives of 14 orders of fishes including 34 families and at least 64 species.

Sea lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus elongatus) during freshwater treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019

The sea louse Caligus elongatus (Caligidae). Genetic variation and host use by its two genotypes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Caligus elongatus (Caligidae: Siphonostomatoida) is a common ectoparasite of fish in the north Atlantic. Unlike the salmon louse (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) which is specific to salmonids, C. elongatus infects more than 80 fish species and is considered an unspecific generalist parasite.
